Hi all,
I have used VideoStudio to create some yearly family movies. They turn out to be between 3-4 hours. I have previously done this (in VS15, and I believe one in VS12) without issue. But the recent one that I've made with VSX9 has some issues. It plays fine from the beginning, but if I ever try to skip ahead past the half-way mark, I'll hit some random video frame in that area, and the sound will continue to play normally. Skipping around more will just increase the time it takes for the sound to play, but the video never moves from the frozen frame at click time. Even clicking back to an earlier segment that I KNOW plays normally will exhibit this behavior, especially after the half-way mark. SOMETIMES I can scan ahead (or back) to someplace in the first half and have it recover & play normally from there, but sometimes not.
Thinking it may be the player something not being able to play such long movies, I have loaded up some of the old 4hr videos and they behave correctly. So I'm guessing it's got to be something in the rendering of the movie in X9 that's causing the problems.
Some of the technical specs:
My usual player is VLC player but I've observed similar behavior with QT (although in QT, everything is stuttery in the beginning, and skipping ahead locks the video and stutters the audio).
I'm on Windows 10 64bit, 16G ram, Geforce GTX 980TI
VSX9 64 bit ultimate 19.6.0.1
Movie input consists of pictures, music, MP4 videos, and MOV videos, using titles and transitions.
Movie output to MP4 1920x1080, 30p, 15Mbps
Some things I've tried:
I checked around the forums and saw people have fixed some issues by disabling Smart Render. I tried that and no luck. I also remember a problem with X12 with some of the title graphics / templates and some of the transitions, so I created a version without titles and with only a single type of transition -- the pixelated A/B switch -- and got the same results.
I'm going to try to disable /delete different components to see if I can narrow down a troublemaker, but maybe one of you have seen this before and know how to fix it. Can anyone help me out here?
Thanks,
Daniel

This can happen with high bitrates video and project settings. Try proxy files. Play video clip instead of project. Pc must be powerful for best results and make sure other programs are not running in the background.
User for more than 10 years.
Re: Large 4hr MP4 movie: can't scan past 2hr, other issues
Thanks guys. I've done a bunch of trial & error and it seems it doesn't mater about titles, music, etc. After about 1hr 15 minutes no matter what I cut out, this out of sync behavior occurs with VSX9. This didn't happen with VS15. The bitrates and everything seem identical between the two. I haven't tried or looking too much into the proxy files, but if I have to do this for every file -- 100+ -- that's not something I'm going to try for this project. I may try VSx10 or some other program, but I have no other option than to mark VSx9 as a turkey for video editing larger projects.
I may try playing around with the proxy files although from the sound of it, it may affect the quality of the video, but other than that I don't really have any other ideas.

Hi
Can you confirm that the problem (sync) occurs with project playback only.
That after rendering the project the resultant file is ok?
Give us more details regarding your MP4 and Mov video
Right click a clip and choose properties, what are they?
Given that you are using those formats have you installed the Quicktime codec.
It may help?
As for Smart Proxy Files, they are created automatically for video having a frame size larger than 720 x *** ……….see F6 – Performance tab, tick enable or go to Settings – Smart Proxy Manager – Enable
1 / new clips added to the timeline will have proxy files created.
2 / for existing clips on the timeline, right click and choose create proxy files.
Ctrl+ A will select all clips. Otherwise Shift + click to select adjacent clips.
Proxy files may take a long time to create, as you have a lot of clips its gonna take a while.
install QT codec You Tube...

"Can you confirm that the problem (sync) occurs with project playback only.

No, this is not true. When I play the resultant file, after 1:15 the sync gets out of sorts if I try to scan forwards, and sometimes does not recover until I reboot the player. I am using MKV player but have also tried quicktime or windows media player, but with WORSE behavior. And, if I let the file play from a "good" point, it will continue to play correctly with no issues. It is only scanning / trying to start past 1:15 that things go haywire.
And, I have a 4hr video project made with VS15 which has no problems like this.
"Give us more details regarding your MP4 and Mov video

The MP4s are from Android S6 phones, 24bits / 1920 x 1080.
The MPGs are from a video camera 6 years old or so, 24 bits / 720 x 480.
The only deviation from these is that sometimes we have a video file from our phones where it isn't recorded in "horizontal" mode -- wide-ways -- the entire time, and is instead recorded as vertical ways for some or all of the time. And sometimes there is a video clip where they are both, and I video edit the segments so that everything is horizontal mode that can be.

Re: Large 4hr MP4 movie: can't scan past 2hr, other issues
Hi
I would think it is the Phone video that is giving the problems, most phones record using a variable frame rate, this can be confusing for the video editors.
Standard video would use a constant frame rate, foe example 30fps for NTSC and 25 for Pal, the timelines being set to one of those, I assume 30 for you.
Allowing the frame rates to vary/ float would cause out of sync issues.
I can only suggest you use a video converter to create a more editable format, MP4 1920x1080, 30p, 15Mbps is your output option.
So I would convert to that, hopefully the new video will be in sync.
Format Factory has been used by other forum members, take care when installing to select the manual options, deselect any additional packs the software tries to install

Re: Large 4hr MP4 movie: can't scan past 2hr, other issues
Update for anyone else having this trouble: I never found a way inside of VSX9 to get it to render my movie without this issue. Lata's suggestion to convert the resulting MP4 into another MP4 worked, though! I am now able to correctly scan anywhere in the movie file and have it play flawlessly. And I don't notice any video degradation or anything like that.
I actually used Audials 2017 which I already have a subscription to. I converted to an MP4 "High" quality.
Thanks for the suggestion Lata.
