Newbie question

Post by Carlpembs »

Hi all, just joined. I've purchased X10 ultimate with a view to edit lots of my drone footage. Can anyone point me to a link on how to dissolve two scenes together without the instant one to another cut ? I don't want to insert different dissolve edits just one scene fading into another. I've looked but can't find it in tutorials etc. Thanks in advance
Carl.

Welcome to the forum!

One scene fading into another sounds an awful lot like a crossfade -- and there is of course a crossfade transition whose length you can adjust. But you also say that for some reason you don't want to insert "dissolve edits" which I assume -- perhaps incorrectly -- to mean transitions. If that is the case then you can achieve the same effect by simply dragging and dropping the start of the second clip a little over the end of the first clip. This amounts to a cross fade, the length of it is governed by how far you overlap the ends of the clips.

Thank you for your reply Kerry, yes I tried that but I still get an instant switch from first scene to second. I'll give it another try. Again thank you for your reply.

Tried that but it puts in a transition it chooses, all I want is for it to dissolve from first clip to the second.

Hi
Have you tried dragging the crossfade transition from the A/B library to the time line, between your two clips.

The default duration can be changed via F6 preferences.

Hi

From Preferences F6 – Edit Tab you can select the default transition effect.
This is set as Random, but can be changed to any of your choice.

Then should you drag a clip over another that transition will be used.
You can also change the duration of those transitions, I think defaults to 1 sec.
