Elliptical Vignette

PSP's vignette feature could be useful if it could be elliptical - how often do you need a square or circular vignette?
Am I missing something?
Is there a way to make an elliptical vignette?

You could draw your own by using the Freehand Selection Tool:

But I agree that it would be easier to have a preset

As Joelle said you can use a raster selection
Selections Tool > Selections > and under Selection Type choose Ellipse.
Draw your ellipse as close as you can then right click inside the selection and drag to position the ellipse where you want it.
Then do Effects > Photo Effects > Vignette and under Area of Focus choose the fourth one Use Raster Selection. Adjust the sliders to get the effect you want.

Or you could install the Nik plugins and use the excellent Vignette features in Color Efex Pro.

Why the handles of the circular vignette (Area of Focus) can't simply change the XY proportions of the circular shape (e.g. by pressing Shift or CTRL) goes beyond my understanding...it would be so obvious and straightforward

Installed on my Win7Pro + PSP X9 (32/64) but don't see anything ??? how do I access the plugins ? Did I point to an incorrect location during installation ?
A little help would be appreciated

Try C:\Program Files\Google\Nik Collection for your file location.

I am surprised that PSP does not have these simple features like creating an ellipse or rectangle with rounded corners, and then cropping a photo to it. So, I guess that one should use the right tool for the job. These can easily be done using Xara Designer Pro X or Photo & Graphics Designer (and probably CorelDraw). Simply import the image, draw an ellipse or rectangle (rounding the corners) over the image. Give the ellipse or rectangle some transparency to see the image below it. Move and resize. With the object selected, select also the image, Ctrl+3 and the image is cropped to the shape. I wonder if the newly announced PSP 2018 can do this.

Xara is a brilliant program, love it!
If only someone could combine PaintShop Pro with Xara I would be in clover

To make an ellipse (to use as a selection) in PSP, I would use the Ellipse Tool: Q on the keyboard.
Select the Ellipse, drag the shape, adjust with the Pick Tool, K.
Selections> from Vector Object
Go back to the original layer>right-click>Promote selection to layer.
Delete the unwanted layer.

Easier in Xara, but the end result is the same
