Just drag the effect (to sound track) where the trans time.
( personally I hate that on TV)

Re: Adding Sound Effects to Transitions
I was just wanting to learn how to time it correctly. Whenever I do it, the sound doesn't work with the transition.

Hi
You could add a cue point above the top timeline to a position on the video, then switch to audio view will show the audios wave form, should help in lining up the clips

Yep! move them forward/backward incrementally, or, frame by frame as needed...
I've also found over the years, that when working with audio, If I find a 'problem audio (or video) snippet' that still refuses proper alignment. on occasion, if you split and cut frames (or sometimes seconds, depending if you have silence at the beginning) can also really help finicky clip alignments...

Re: Adding Sound Effects to Transitions
Have you tried scrolling along the timeline to the start of the transition and noting the time code, then do the same at the end of the transition. This will give you frame accurate times.Position the timeline cursor at the start of the transition then drag the audio to the start of the transition where the white veritcal line is.Then move the cursor to the end of where the transition is.Cut the audio clip at this point and delete the unwanted portion. If you enter the time code value the cursor will jump to that precise point.Depending on the length of the transition you could also consider fading the audio in and or out.

Re: Adding Sound Effects to Transitions
Another trick is to hold the Shift key when clicking on the end of an audio track and moving it to align with your video. What this does is to "stretch" or "compress" the audio track without cutting it. The audio is speeded up or slowed down depending which way you pull the track. This works well for small changes in track length and makes it easy to align a complete piece of music with a video sequence.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.
