Enhancements in X10: performance question
Does anyone know if the EDITOR MODULE in VideoStudio X10 Ultimate 64 bit, has been enhanced to use memory above 4 GB? I've read the PC Mag review of X10 and searched the user forum, but I haven't found any mention of this for X9 or X10. I'm still using X8 Ultimate 64 bit, and I would jump at the X10 upgrade if this enhancement was included (I've monitored performance in the Windows Task Manager extensively while using the X8 editor module and it never uses memory above 4 GB). Thanks!

Re: Enhancements in X10: performance question
I have never monitored this nor do I know how to monitor it. If you post how to measure whether VS uses memory above 4GB, someone here will give you the answer. I looked at Task manager during insertion of a 4K 60fps video file and rendering it and I see vstudio.exe use not much above 1.5 GB of memory in the Processes list, but maybe this is not how to measure this.

Re: Enhancements in X10: performance question
Here's how I monitor the memory usage:
I press Ctrl/Alt/Delete and select the Windows Task Manager.
In the task manager, I select the "Performance" tab which shows a graphic of CPU, Memory, Disk, and other resource use.
Next I start VideoStudio, X8 64 bit (Ultimate in my case). As it starts, there's a spike in CPU and disk activity, but that calms down as soon as the program loads.
At this point, memory utilization on my system is about 2.5 GB (system has 12 GB memory).
Next I load a project, typically over 45 minutes long with an assortment of still photos (JPG), video clips (MP4) with some affects, overlays, and a music track.
It seems like this much content should fill considerably more than 4 GB of memory (if I load a smaller set of photos into PhotoShop it uses way more than 4 GB).
As the project loads, I watch the performance graphics, disk maxes out at 100%, CPU runs around 30%, the project appears to be loaded after about two minutes,
but the disk continues to be maxed out for another minute, then it drops off and resources are fairly idle as the program waits for me to work in the editor.
When I view the project, or add affects like Mercalli image stabilization, the processor gets very busy.
The thing is, with the project loaded, memory only goes up to about 3 GB in use (24%). It seems like a true 64 bit application would use more memory and improve performance.
I may be barking up the wrong tree. My performance issue has generally been choppy video playback in the editor, but I've learned to mostly avoid that issue by using the smart proxy feature, and always converting any AVI video files to MP4 before I ever load them into VideoStudio (I get very choppy playback on the AVI files if I put both MP4 and AVI video files into the same project). (System has a 2.5 GHz quad core AMD A10-5750M APU with Radeon HD Graphics.)
I would be interested to know if others see the same "minimal use of system memory", if there are opinions on if enhancing this would improve performance, and also if anyone has any performance tuning tips.
Thanks!
