Rendering in VSX10
Just putchased vsx10 so all latest updates installed, have searched forums & watched tutorials but still following questions:
1) how often shud u render
2) how long shud it take to render a 5min 4k gopro vid (mines taking >10 mins)
3) why is playback quality poor after applying just 2 or 3 rx like crop & chromakey
4) when i create mask & apply to whole vid, again >10mins to apply
5) create mask on almost non moving part, but nearly every frame have to redraw edges of mask that are out of the lines

Re: Rendering in VSX10
No reason to continue to render multiple times. Render if you want to see what your project looks like. I usually do it when I am done. I may have to make some changes after I see the result. Save project frequently on lengthy projects so you can recover if there is some type of failure.CADA wrote:Just putchased vsx10 so all latest updates installed, have searched forums & watched tutorials but still following questions:

Rendering times are very variable, dependent on project settings, edits made, transitions, video sources, your pc power, etc. In general, higher resolution, higher bit rates, more complex editing result in increased times. Click all hardware assists in the Preferences to get lowest render times.CADA wrote:2) how long shud it take to render a 5min 4k gopro vid (mines taking >10 mins)
Not sure why. All dependent in specifics of what you are doing. More details and you may get more ideas. Cropping reduces resolution and can cause reduced quality, but I would not expect chromakey to reduce quality.CADA wrote:3) why is playback quality poor after applying just 2 or 3 rx like crop & chromakey
Could happen with complexity and not powerful enough pc. In general any edits of high resolution video, project settings that cause conversions, and complex editing can take time with older pc'sCADA wrote:4) when i create mask & apply to whole vid, again >10mins to apply
Masking is a difficult feature and it perhaps needs optimizing.CADA wrote:5) create mask on almost non moving part, but nearly every frame have to redraw edges of mask that are out of the lines

Re: Rendering in VSX10
CADA -- Re (2) and (3): in both of these what format you are rendering to is also important. If you are wanting to output the same format as your GoPro originals, make sure you click the box in Preferences > General beside "Show message when inserting first video clip in timeline". This only works in a new Project, but with a new project you insert your GoPro clip, and you should get a message asking if you want the Project Properties to match those of the clip. Say OK. Then do your editing. When ready for rendering, go to Share and choose the very top option (small box beside): "Same As Project Settings".
Moreover, with SmartRender activated, any parts of the project which have not been edited will not be rendered, with those original parts of the clips used in the final output. This can sometimes significantly lower rendering times.

Can't see why my system should be struggling at all. It's also brand new with nothing else on it-dedicated video editing machine.
And, yep, had already done all the suggested tips.
I've tried with just HD and there are no probs. It seems to be the 4k gopro vids, esp on the overlay track.
Also, on rendering just my HD vids, I tried one with just one photo + short 10 sec vid on the overlay track. I rendered a custom version & just the mp4 preset version. Both have a halo effect in the lighting as the pic zooms out - like its lo def. Also, the vid doesn't zoom out smoothly, it jumps. Any thoughts on why?

Re: Rendering in VSX10
I agree that your laptop should be capable.
Get a different video player, if what you say at the end is with Windows Media Player; though my Win10 laptop Windows Media Player handles 4K great, vs Win7 which does not. VLC player may work better.
What is the bitrate of those GoPro video files? (Get MediaInfo if you don't have it).
What are your Project settings, video files details, vs what format are you rendering? Rendering the same as your video files should give the good results. I have a Panasonic LUMIX GH4 and a GX85 that produce very high quality 4K with very high bit rates and I have been using them with VS for quite awhile; I also have a powerful pc (listed on the right) and a recent powerful laptop running Win10. I don't have a GoPro and don't know much about their 4K files. If you place a small sample in some Cloud Drive so we can test them, we could give you some better ideas.

I do the set project settings same as video thing on import & render.
I gave up & just rendered the photo part by itself with it's fx, & still same halo effect. I played with other export options & still same.

Re: Rendering in VSX10
Also just imported 5 secs of gopro vid with project settings same as vid settings.
Rendered with project settings same as vid settings.
Result: Jerky, lower quality look.

Re: Rendering in VSX10
How about sharing this small project in one of the cloud sharing sites so we can try it. Use Smart Package and post link here. I don't understand what's happening with those GoPro video files; they don't behave like my 4K files which push 100 mbps bitrates.CADA wrote:Also just imported 5 secs of gopro vid with project settings same as vid settings.

Not sure what Smart Package is but tried to upload files where it says "upload attachment" here, but it just says page can't be reached/errors out.
Happy to upload. Just can't see how.

Hi
The forum Attachments option is limited in file sizes, hence the request to upload to a sharing site.
Smart Package…..saves your project to a separate folder containing all clips/everything within your project.
Create a new small project containing your issues.
Go to File Smart Package and follow instructions.
Zip the folder and upload to a sharing site.
Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive , DropBox etc….

Can I just post a link from dropbox without using the smart package thing?

What have you uploaded to dropbox? Using the SmartPackage would be much better since if would include everything that is in your projectCADA wrote:Can I just post a link from dropbox without using the smart package thing?
