Filter - Fade to Grey

Post by dumbdumber »

I'm using x9 Ultimate. I want a video clip to start off in colour, then gradually fade to monochrome. Please help.

Hi, when was the last time you looked at the hue and saturation FX?

I have always found the easiest way to fade to any colour is to drag the colour block you need from the 'colour' library down onto the end of the clip and apply a cross fade transition.

To follow on with Brian's recommendation. Get either a snapshot or a clip of the shot and put on the main track, add the same clip next to the first to get two clips exactly the same next to each other.
Open the second copy of the clip and, with Options, reduce the Saturation to zero. You should now have two clips of the same shot, the first in colour and the second in black and white. Now insert the "Crossfade" transition between the clips and, if you wish, extend to give the length of transition you require.

A second method which works with video. Get same clip and drag one copy on to the Main Timeline then drag the same clip on to the Overlay track below the first clip. Set the Overlay to fill the screen. Now open the Options and reduce the saturation of the clip on the Overlay track to zero. Click on the Fade-In option and run the clips as a Project.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Thanks Terfyn, that second method was the most succesful.
