The free ParticleShop

Post by MatsW »

Hah-hah-haah!! I played around with the free Corel ParticleShop which I downloaded just now. It is launched from within PSP. I think it's remarkable. Great fun!! I haven't purchased any extra brushes yet. They are expensive, but judging from the free brushes they are priceworthy.

The free Particleshop comes with Servicepack 4 of PSP X7.
Installed the update and Particleshop, as well as the free brushes they also promise you as part of SP4.

However, for the life of me, I can't make either ParticleShop or the brushes visible in X7, X8 or X9.
I do know how to point PSP in the right direction. I found the folder which is created by ParticleShop, but can't launch as a stand-alone from there.

How did you do it?

How weird is it that it comes with SP4 of X7?

Is there a chance that they will be rolling it out to other versions of PSP? Using it to sell the brushes?

You may need to point PSP to the directory/folder where it's installed: menu File/Preferences/File Locations.../Plug-ins.
That wouldn't run stand-alone, though.

I thought that I had a problem as well, however it works with the 64 bit version of X7, not the 32 bit version. This was not explained by Corel in the info about running the program.

And as well it is automatically available in X6, X8 and X9 64 bit versions.

I have done that. To no avail. :(

@Hartpaul...thanks...that explains it. I only use the 32-bit versions of PSP, as older plugins don't work with 64-bit or with both versions installed.
As most of my users use old plugins and want to continue to use them, I need to stay on 32-bit PSP.
And no...Corel doesn't explain at all that ParticleShop only works with 64-bit.
At least I know what to explain to my users.
Thanks!!!!

By default recent versions of PSP install both 64 bit and 32 bit versions of PSP, though of course only one version can be opened at a time. But this is useful in precisely the situation you now find yourself in. Usually people who mainly use the 64 bit version can revert to the 32 bit one if they want to use the 32 bit plug-ins. But in your case, if you had the 64 bit version, your could use that to apply Particle Shop to particular images, then revert to the 32 bit versions if you wanted then to apply 32 bit plug-ins to that image or other images...

It comes with the newly released X7 SP4
http://www.paintshoppro.com/en/support/ ... sion-tab=2

Which begs the question - if you don't have X7 how do you install it for X8, X9, X6 which all get to have itt when you install SP4 on PSP X7?

I noticed that trialversions automatically are installed in 64-bit. You need to know your way around the Corel site to find a 32-bit version.
I've done it with each new PSP version, since X7. Installed the combination and only point to old plugins in the 32-bit version.
They either don't show or give an error. There is something in 64-bit files that clash with the old plugins.
If you remove and reinstall PSP with just the 32-bit version, (old 32-bit and sometimes 16-bit) plugins work.
My users use PSP for working with backgrounds with masks,to which the plugins are applied for effect, then adding picturetubes etc. Especially in The Netherlands and Belgium this is still very populair.
PSP is hardly used for photo editing. It's a different ballgame.
This site is a good example of what I'm talking about: http://www.asdwebdesigns.nl

I have a Windows 10 laptop. Will install PSP X7 on that one in 64-bit and then see what happens.

Thanks for the explanation, Ken.

I have 64-bit versions of X8 and X9 installed and don't have a problem with my old plugins still working in the 32-bit versions of both of those. I can't imagine why yours no longer work.

Actually, it is not me who has the problems applying old plugins, but my users.
I very, very, seldom use plugins and the ones I do use are part of Filters Unlimited 2.3, which works in both 32-bit and 64-bit PSP.
But my users tell me they can't make them visible in PSP, let alone apply any older plugins after installing either the combination 32-/64-bit or 64-bit alone.
And they do know how to point PSP to the folders of either loose plugins or installation.

Still think it would have been nice if Corel had made it clear that ParticleShop only works with 64-bit PSP.
