HI,
I just installed VSX10 and I am wondering how to transfer or import the VS files and media from other VS installs. Can I just transfer the files into the proper VSx10 folders?
I have VS5,6,8 I think that is all I tend to skip a version. I may have other files but possibly transferred them years ago.
VS has never it seems to make it an easy thing to do, except maybe on the first few early versions.
I just dislike having 4 or 5 version of a similar program on the computer. It seems a lot of wasted space. I have tried to keep all the VSP files in the same folder, but know between video, still pictures, possibly some music files there can be quite a lot.
Would the best way is to import them all into the library of window 10? I don't think that physically moves them?
Sounds like a nuisance (which it is), but like I say it seems a lot of wasted space (even though I have plenty)
thanks, appreciate it.
Bruce

Hi, I don't see any need to have X5 if you have X6,
The only reason to keep older versions is if you need to reopen and reedit old vsp's . X10 will open down to X8, X8 down to X6. Regarding the libraries, they are just vectors to your medias BUT the do keep you favorites FX's and paths
So you can try to export your X8 library and import it to your X10 and confirm all there.

Not quite right asik1, I can open VSX7 .vsp files in X10, just need to relink some of the content, you do of course need to be aware that you may have used filters or music which are no longer available in X10asik1 wrote:Hi, I don't see any need to have X5 if you have X6,

Thanks, I believe also when uninstalling that it keeps the data files for previous versions also? Even if I do delete the program the data files will be there?

Re: Transferring info. from previous versions?
A great deal depends on exactly what you want to transfer
if you want to transfer "content" which comes with VideoStudio (menus etc) then for many of them you can just copy from folders in the old version to identical folders in the new version - although that does not work for all content as they need to be properly "installed" in order to work
if you mean your own videos and photos etc. then you first need to make sure they are not in any specific VideoStudio folders - ie within the programme so that they do not get deleted when you remove the earlier version of VideoStudio
I always make sure my videos etc. are in proper 'Windows' folders such as 'My Videos' or 'Pictures' - providing yours are in Windows folders then they can stay there and you just need to transfer the links to the latest version . .. it is my practice to make a folder for each and every project under "Videos" putting all media used in the project in there
I am not at all sure that exporting a library in X5 and importing in X9 will work - on occasions when I tried things like that the whole library structure in X9 was replaced with the older one and none of my new libraries remained - so I would counsel caution if you try that
My method - which I admit I have only ever used to update just one or two versions - never X5 to X9 - so you may need to do it in two stages - works very well as follows
open the earliest version you have of VideoStudio - - open one of your personal libraries - drag everything from the timeline down into the timeline remembering that audio and titles need to go in their own track with videos in their own
"File >> Save" to create a temporary .vsp file - called something like "transfer 1.vsp " - close the old version of Video Studio - open up your latest version and open the project file you have just created - if required "Add" a new library - then drag everything from the timeline into the library
repeat for each and every library you need to move from older versions to the new version - sounds a bit long but in practice you will be surprised to see just how quickly you can do it
