Not recording MPEG-4 AVC

Post by mikeandm »

Hi,
I am presently using VS 9.5 ultimate and am trying to record an edited video I have made. I am trying to record it using MPEG-4 AVC(1280 x 720, 25 p, 10Mbps). The rendering starts normally but at about the half way stage it comes up with a box stating it only works with Windows 7, 8 and 10. It then stops the whole thing. I am using Windows 10 on a MSI Apache Pro computer and so do not know the problem.
I have tried recording this clip 3 times at different MPEG-4 settings and get the same result. Playing the video in edit mode it is working correctly. The last time I tried to record I sat and watched it and found it stopped at 67%. I then edited again and cut out a section with 3 minutes either side of this point and tried to save that to MPEG-4. This worked perfectly, I then tried recording the whole file again and once more it stopped rendering at 67%.
Can anyone help?

I must look more carefully what you have at the ~67% point and correct it.

Hi,
I tried what you suggested by going into the original file and cutting out a 5 minute section centred on 67%. I then put in the same clip which I had previously recorded as a MPEG-4 file. This clip I had tested using VLC and it played perfectly. After installing the new clip I then tried to render using MPEG-4. This time it stopped after 68%, this was within the range of the new clip I used.
Unfortunately I have now run out of ideas.

the fact that VLC plays it, means nothing if VS still can't.
is this 5 min section is a single clip?

It was several clips which I had edited as part of the complete file. I then just copied the 5 minute clip into a new project and saved that. I then went back into the original clip, cut out the section and inserted the new section. That is the one that I then tried to save the last time.
I would add that if I run the whole file in edit mode everything is playing OK, that is the complete file which is about 50 minutes and the new 5 minute clip which I have saved as MPEG-4. I have also saved it as an AVI file as a test and that works fine as well. It is only when I try to render that it stops and does not recognise windows 10.
Tomorrow I think I shall save just the first 30 mins and then try the second half seperately to see if the file is too big.
Will let you know the result.

OK,I have tried saving the large file into two clips. The first worked fine the second stopped at about the same point once again. I have just downloaded the VS 10 trial so I tried with that and got the same results.
My next effort was to take a larger section around the problem area and tried to record that. That section rendered perfectly without me altering any of the settings.
I then cut and pasted the new clip I had made into the original file and rendered it once more.
This time it worked perfectly. I still do not know what was causing the problem since I have only used a small bit of the original file, saving that bit and then incorporating it once more. Does not make sense to me, but at least it has worked and I can now play the whole clip as a MPEG-4 file.
