VS ULTIMATE 9.5+SERV PK 4 RENDERING ISSUE STOPS/CRASHES

Post by melda m »

Endeavouring to share/render to a DVD Disc - did render project ok 2 weeks ago but with transition faults & no text/audio. Have since removed troublesome transitions - added text & audio. Plays fine on computer prior rendering.
After 5 tries at rendering it stops same spot "A problem caused prog to stop working - notify me when solution available " ? But how do they notify you anyway ? Have tried option factory default MPEG4 without highlighted Optimizer activated (not sure of highlighted options) also AVI option to DVD.

Stops at - Convert Title at 16% Total Prog & 43% Detailed Prog.

From any internet info can see it is/has been an issue but service Patch 4 should have fixed.

Other information also indicates that whilst rendering an option existed, for at least older versions X6, to Review project (FRAME BY FRAME) as it is BEING RENDERED hence readily being able to see frame or issue causing crash.
Prior to hitting BURN option I am aware the project can be Previewed - does this have anything to do with the frame by frame option ?

I have searched User Manual & online sources re Ultimate 9.5 - can someone in easy terms tell me where to locate this option on the Share Screen & how or where to activate same. This will solve my problem if I know where the program is stopping as I am not aware of any issues with abnormal frames during the production & as mentioned plays back fine on computer prior render.
Version used showing 19.6.0.1. 64 bit.
Been referred to Windows 10 Event Viewer & lots of info appears but sadly jargon to me - a couple of noticeables I/D 10016 - Distributed COM & I/D 69 - Appl Model Runtime. I do not understand the info.

My conclusion is maybe 9.5 version does not have the frame by frame viewing whilst rendering option (surely not) but I need to ask the question if it does how do I go about using it. Am becoming frustrated as I have not had this issue with older versions & this is the first project to "hopefully" come off 9.5. Overall project length is 1 hr & fits well within the perimeters. Overall Dell Inspirion computer has lots of free memory working space.

Appreciate any advices but simple instructions please.

These type of problems are very frustrating, but I am happy you seem open to tweak your project to get around whatever the problem is.

I don't recall rendering and viewing frame by frame as the render is being done. On most projects this would take forever, I'd think. My best guess is to approximate where the render stops by the percent amount when it stops. That percent should locate where the likely issue is. My suggestion is to simplify things around that area and try the render again.

Other suggestions: try different formats to see if the problem is codec related, cut the project until it renders and cut less and re-render until it starts failing again. Post more details about your project like video sources formats, transitions being used, what music you are using, etc; the more details the easier it may be to help you better.

Part of your problem possibly (probably?) lies in the fact that you are going straight from editing your project to burning it to disc. That is of course a valid workflow, but one which surprisingly often causes problems for some users. Some of us here as a result follow a different workflow which involves editing our project but then rendering it to a new video in the format required for the end product. In your case you are wanting to eventually burn a DVD, so for that your project needs to be converted to DVD-compatible mpeg-2.

So you would finish editing then go to Share but instead of the disc options, select instead the top option which lists a variety of video formats including MPEG-2 and in that choose an option which fits a DVD. First select PAL or NTSC. And then, if your project is an hour or less long, select 8000 kbps as the bitrate and (normally) Upper Field First. And select the audio output you prefer: LPCM or Dolby. Give the new clip a name. Then press START. A new mpeg-2 should eventually be produced.

Go back to EDIT and then File > New Project. Don't worry about giving it a name: the objective is just to clear the timeline. Then go back to Share and this time select the DVD disc option. In the Project Settings icon in the bottom left of the burning screen make sure 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files' is ticked. If there is anything in the burning timeline (and there shouldn't be), remove it. Then go to the Add Media button in the top left and navigate to where your new mpeg-2 clip is stored and add it to the burning timeline. Build your menu, watch the preview, and then go to the Burn page.

If you want to avoid making another coaster, then choose ISO or DVD Folder as the output rather than an actual disc. This will produce an exact replica of what would be on the disc but in software form. You can play the ISO or DVD Folder on a player like the freeware VLC player to make sure everything is OK. When satisfied you can burn the ISO to an actual disc using VS, or if a Folder, then with a program like Nero or the freeware ImgBurn.

During the 'burning' process, you should not now see 'Convert Title'. It should jump direct to multiplexing.

As for your question about frame by frame viewing, like Al, I too have never seen that suggestion before in my 14 years of using successive versions of VS. And like him, I also think it a somewhat strange idea...

Thanks Al & Ken for your feedback so far.
This is the link I am referring to in relation to being able to preview as it is rendering in an article that was X6 version.

https://support.corel.com/hc/en-us/arti ... -or-Render
In Solution section - Photos heading then photo of screen layout (which I recognize as an old layout) indicates render in real time by selecting PREVIEW BUTTON. Does this option exist on 9.5 ??

Years ago & possibly using Ulead I think the project was flashing before your eyes as it rendered & did take a length of time in those days but would crash at the relative spot if any issues & you would be onto the issue.

The valid workflow mentioned is what I have used for many years & this process is now certainly very speedy. I will have to ingest your other options Ken.
Guess the annoying thing is the project runs well when playing back on computer prior rendering with no hint of issues.

I am the person that posted several weeks ago re transition pixilation issues (Have not been able to give any feedback as no successful render yet) - have changed all problem "side" options tried lengthen transition to 2 sec & longer for photos & have NOW GONE BACK to preset 1 sec (as always used). Used different non problem transitions. All was looking good & running well on computer full screen viewing until this render issue.
Music being used is same as always MP3.

Mainly posting this so you can see the article re crash issues in case this option still exists. Otherwise will resort to cut & test render sections for now then get onto the more technical side if I really have to.
Thoughts appreciated.

That image is not taken from the Burning module but in the Editing module, and relates to rendering the project to a new video file as I described above in relation to our alternative workflow. AFAIK it never existed to the Preview available in the Burning module.

I should have added above, by way of explanation, that those of us who follow the workflow I suggested above do so because of the realization that the burning process is of itself a very complicated process, no matter how simple it might appear once it has started, and it is highly demanding of computer resources. Your workflow is valid, yes, but that doesn't mean ours is not valid. It is designed to subtract an equally complicated process (rendering the project) from the burning process, and do it as a separate step. And if you think about it, only increases the time taken to produce the eventual disc, by one or two key strokes. The time taken to render the project will be identical whether the rendering is done separately under our workflow or whether it is done as part of the overall burning process. It is just that surprisingly often users find that a problem arises when following your valid workflow. It should work, but sometimes it doesn't, and so it is useful to keep an open mind about an alternate but equally valid workflow.

Thanks Ken for clarifying that the "real time" rendering preview does not exist & the linked info with photo misleading.
I will take on board your alternative workflow option & see if I can work through the steps & have for future use as well.
Firstly I'll try "cut & render options" once I work out what to do there as well & hopefully locate any fault issue.
Again thanks Al & Ken for even taking the time to try & address the issue.

Thanks to those who posted options why the rendering was causing issues.

I have painstakingly gone back to saved versions as I have worked through the project to get to a final stage to render & at various stages checked footage/tried to render that or not. I ruled out problems with photos/text & audio - all good. Most surprisingly all rendered successfully until the last couple of saved versions.

Short story - at that stage I realized I had utilized NEW BLUE NOISE REDUCER - AUDIO on four video frames of grand kids at the beach (wishing to still hear their excitement but reduce some of the other background noises). Sounded fine when played back on the computer BUT !! Removed this FX & a great production has easily been EDITED - RENDERED & now BURNT onto discs using the valid workflow to my great relief.

I will bear in mind the non-conventional (but successful) process being utilized by yourselves if needed for future purposes.
Again feedback was appreciated.
