standard video filtering within VS9

Post by arieh »

Hi, I just installed VS9 to evaluate this against my (old) VS6.

In general VS9 looks promising to me, however: when I do a preview or a rendering of a video, the color/brightness of the video changes.
This change is dramatic from a normal to a high contrast/brightness. Even the sample clips show this problem so it should not be a problem wtih the initial file format.

Does VS9 have some kind of automatic ajustment of brightness/contrast that can be turned off?
When I look at the video settings (left to the preview screen), all color adjustment sliders show a level 0 (so no change).....

who can help?

did you add any color adjustment to your video? or did you just drop the video onto the timeline, and it immediately changes the contrast/brightness :?:

what are the properties of your source videos? How were they captured?

what are your system specs?

The settings are immediately adjusted after a drop in the timeline. (at least I think they are...)

the sample clips I used play and render normally without adjustments within VS6 and play nomally within media player.
When I use VS9 and load the clips and do a preview or render the brighness/contrast change;
(the original is OK, the rendered result is useless because of this)

system spec: athlonXP 1800+, 768Mb ram, XP-SP2

in preferences, do you have "Apply Color Filter" selected? I'm away from my editing machine at the moment, so not sure if that's the proper wording. But I will check when I get back home later today...

GeorgeW, thanks for your reply again.

I have looked for the mentioned option and deselected it without results.
Slowly I come to the conclusion that I have a corrupted installation somehow.

What I just discovered also...when I have the "video" tab selected during preview, the brightnes/contrast issue is seen in preview. When I have the "attribute" tab selected, the preview looks ok; however the redering has still the issue.

I am going to reinstall tommorow I am afraid....

You may see different gamma values being applied to the video depending on how the image is displayed -- some video cards (such as NVIDIA-based ones) allow different gamma settings to be applied to the desktop window / applications and the hardware overlay that is used during preview / capture.

Thanks to THoff;

apperently my Nvidia card was doing some into this problem also.
my XP was a brand new install with the newest drivers of the videocard. So there is the reason I did not have this problem before with my old install.
I managed to "disable" the display overlaying of the drivers and now it is working fine....at least as far as I can see....
