Hi1
I use Corel PSP Pro X6 running under Windows 7 Pro.
How do I insert the Greek character pi when using the text tool?
Thank you!

As far as I know, PSP has no character viewer for inserting non-standard characters. So you have to use one of several tricks.
1) Copy and paste - just do a quick google search for Pi character, find the text representation copy and paste it into PSP. You can just copy this one. π
2) Use ASCII character codes - if you have a numpad (cannot use the numbers across the top of your keyboard) you can simply hold the ALT key and dial 227 on your keypad. When you release the ALT ky you'll see the character Pi appear. The codes are 227 for capital Pi and 210 for lowercase Pi.
3) Use a character viewer in another program like Word. All you need to be able to do is copy characters and paste them in. So this is essentially the same as #1 but doesn't require the internet.

Dear LeviFiction,
Thank you for your reply.
The problems w/ Copy & Paste are (1) size and (2) the difficulty in using in the middle of an equation such as C=2πr.
I tried Alt 210 and Alt 227. Surprisingly, Alt 227 works but Alt 210 displays a question mark.

If the font doesn't support the 210 character it won't show.
When you paste the text you simply need to change the font information to resize. Or paste it first into a program like notepad so that no font or formatting information is brought with it before you paste it into PSP. When you paste only text it'll take on the font settings of the text where you paste it in.

Re: Inserting Greek Characters
The quickest way of finding the character you want is to (in Windows 7) click Start >> Run, then type charmap (or charmap.exe). It will open the character map feature and you can browse through, select, and copy whatever you want, then paste it into a text field in any other app/program. You can mix character set characters within a single text box just by changing the font for individual characters.
It's worth putting a shortcut on your desktop for charmap if you are likely to use it a lot.
Charmap exists in all versions of Windows (including W10). In W10, you can find it through Cortana (or the Cortana taskbar button).

Another way to find it in Win10: Windows start menu / Windows Accessories / Character Map. From there you can right click and pin to start or taskbar.Sualdam wrote:

Re: Inserting Greek Characters
On my Windows 8.1 64 bit system the Character Map is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. The file name is charmap.exe and you can create a shortcut to it on your desktop, taskbar or the Start menu (at least in my Classic Start Menu).

If you right-click it from the location Forriner mentions, and View File Location, you can then right-click again and Send To the desktop as a shortcut (that way you don't have to go looking for it in the file system).
