Non Text wrapping problem

I wish to apply vector text to an image which has other vectors in layers below. [ I'd like to maintain these as vector layers]
Is there a way of preventing overlying text from wrapping within these layers in X8 and X9?
If one applies the text somewhere outside the shape, it ends up as a mess.

Can anyone help, please

Just hold the ALT key when clicking to start a new text object. That'll prevent it from auto-applying the text to the nearest vector object.

Thanks Levi- you are the best

That did the trick in X9 but when I tried in X8 I found that the "Apply" button was greyed out and I couldn't get the text to "stick"

I do not have that problem. You can try double clicking outside of the text area to accept the changes. But you may have to do a workspace reset.

In fact the only problem I have with the alt+key method is that after entering text edit mode, PSP takes the alt-key release as me attempting to access the menu so I have to reselect the canvas before I can continue typing.
