VideoStudio X10 Crashes
I bought VideoStudio X10 a few days ago, as it was recommended to me by both my mother and sister, as they have used previous versions extensively. I am working on putting together videos for a Youtube channel, so I used some capture software that I also bought recently (D3DGear) to capture some footage in a game I will be reviewing. I selected the capture software to save the file as a wmv file, as I know that Corel's capture saves in that same format and can use it. However, when I try to move the video into VideoStudio, it either crashes immediately, or soon after. Any ideas that I could try?

Re: VideoStudio X10 Crashes
Although D3DGear can capture WMV video, it is a specialised form of video called VC-1, and I am not sure if that comes as part of Windows or Video Studio. You would need to install it separately. You will find it as part of the Windows Media Encoder 9 suite.
I believe D3DGear can also capture mpeg-4, and I would be using that format to capture. VS can handle mpeg-4 with no problem, and you can also output in the same format. I believe this would also result in a "cleaner" upload to YouTube. As you know, YouTube tends to re-process incoming video to meet their own standards, and wmv would undoubtedly be re-processed, while mpeg-4 is more likely to be accepted as is.

I will try changing the codec to fast mpeg4 and see if that helps at all

Re: VideoStudio X10 Crashes
Apparently, D3DGear can only capture in 3 different formats; WMV, and AVI 1 and AVI 2. I did some video captures with the AVI 2 format, and it seems to be working now. I guess Corel just doesn't like the WMV's from D3DGear. Thanks for the help Ken

Re: VideoStudio X10 Crashes
I don't know D3DGear and what VC-1 type it uses, but I use WMV3 all the times, and it's basically VC1 .
If you will upload for us a short wmv you capture we can test it.
Those AVI's are also codec related so you better check their settings also.

Re: VideoStudio X10 Crashes
You also get a screen recorder with VS and you can record in full screen resolution.

From what I can see, the included capture system doesn't let you customize the frame rate, which is why I've been using D3DGear.TonyP wrote:You also get a screen recorder with VS and you can record in full screen resolution.

Re: VideoStudio X10 Crashes
I captured in 30fps as well as other frame rates, but it didn't seem to matter. I'll upload a short video of a wmv I capture if I get the time. For the moment, I'll be working with AVI2, as Corel seems to handle it just fine.asik1 wrote:I don't know D3DGear and what VC-1 type it uses, but I use WMV3 all the times, and it's basically VC1 .

Re: VideoStudio X10 Crashes
I assume therefore that you are using the free version. The "pro" paid version includes mpeg-4.garretmwil wrote:Apparently, D3DGear can only capture in 3 different formats; WMV, and AVI 1 and AVI 2.
When you say avi2, I am assuming you possibly mean DV/AVI Type 2. And yes, VS has always handled that well. It's just that the capture files are large -- around 13 GB for one hour of video. But you can always render to a new, smaller format and delete the original captures.

Re: VideoStudio X10 Crashes
I hope it's not the free version, as I paid 30 dollars for it. I believe it was on amazon. Here is the link. It looks legitimate https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YB ... ascsubtag=[site|ttr[cat|813[art|NA[pid|52444[tid|NA[bbc|NAKen Berry wrote:I assume therefore that you are using the free version. Re: VideoStudio X10 Crashes
There's something wrong with your link. I got my information from the FAQ section of the D3DGear website: http://www.d3dgear.com/faqs.htm#4621716G
The price is about the same as what you paid Amazon: US$29.85 so it looks as though it is the full version. But you will see that in fact it does not even mention "AVI2". Can you right click on one of the successful captures in the Video Studio timeline or library window and copy ALL its Properties here please, or take a screen shot of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment. Then we might have a better idea of what is going on.Which video codec should I use for my movie?
D3DGear currently supports following four video codec, and here is some simple guide line of how you choose a video codec:
Hardware encoder (AMD/Nvidia/Intel Hardware H.264 encoder if it is avaliable on the system.)
Fast MPEG-4 Version 2 Codec
Fast Motion JPEG Codec
Windows Media Video 9 Codec (Windows VC-1 codec)
Huffyuv Lossless Codec
In general, we recommend user to use Fast MPEG-4 Version 2 Codec, because it has good compression ratio, HD video quality that is YouTube ready, and use relatively less CPU resource...
