Cropping in X8
I have just switched to X8 from X6, and when i select the CROP button, the image zooms out so the whole image is in view, how do i stop it doing this? It didnt used to do this in X6, when you selected CROP it used to leave whatever view you had on the screen unaltered, its a bit annoying cos if i want to crop the bit i am already zoomed in on i have to zoom in again to it and hitting the CROP button ! i cant see anything in the preferences to change this? thanks!

Re: Cropping in X8
Yeah, I tried X8 and this change infuriated me. It's a case of software trying to be clever and help you, when in fact it just gets in the way. With large images, you often need to fine-tune the cropping rectangle by zooming because the image is too large to see exactly where the rectangle's edges are.
This one change alone makes X8 unusable for me.

Re: Cropping in X8
That is very strange. I have & use X8 and it does not zoom out as the OP described when using the crop tool.
I did some experimenting & have been able to reproduce the zoom out effect by . . . . Selecting the Pan Tool, zoom in with the mouse wheel, Select the Crop tool, then do the crop.
My solution . . . Do not use the Pan tool. Select the Crop tool, zoom in as desired with mouse wheel, do the crop. It holds for me. If re-positioning the image before cropping is necessary, use the sliders. I also uncheck <automatically display crop rectangle> in <Preferences> <Display & Shading>.

Re: Cropping in X8
Using the mouse wheel is a good solution - I admit I didn't know you could do that.
You can also zoom in using the menu.
What this change breaks is the combination of zoom tool and crop tool - you can't change between them. I suspect that the programmers only use the mouse wheel and never considered that people might use the zoom & crop tool in combination.

Re: Cropping in X8
In any case, it's still absolutely wrong to zoom out without giving the user the option to deactivate this behaviour. Who says I want to see the whole image to crop it? What if I'm already zoomed in on the part I want to crop?
