I used Photo Impact for years and loved it because it was so simple and I could do the few things i need to do easily. Now that I've had to convert to PSP I don't know what the heck I'm doing and I don't want to learn how to use the entire program!
I am hoping that some of you experienced users won't mind sharing some of your knowledge with an old person (grin)
In Photo Impact I could save a selection as a .ufo file. I would put several selections on one "new image" and edit each of them so they were a little different then save it as a .ufo file and when i would open it i could choose which edited selection I wanted to use. Can I do that in PSP? If so, how?
When i open the .ufo file in PSP all the selections have been merged into the new image and I can't select any of them as individual selections. I am bummed out because I put a lot of effort into making those .ufo files and now they are useless.
I tried the help section in PSP "working with selections" but they don't tell me what I need to know. I am hoping to get some answers here.

Is there any chance you could post a link to the actual UFO file?
I just tried opening an old UFO in X9 and the objects were preserved so I could move them separately.

Wow, i can't believe you can open them but i can't....

https://www.dropbox.com/s/gzr9wwybuk0wq ... 3.ufo?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5lor5opwz6zp2 ... 9.ufo?dl=0

Hey mikey_marie_1955 - I just opened all of the images and while they do open with a white background each of the objects do open as separate layers. You can see this if you look at the layers palette. The bottom layer is a white layer, the subsequent layers all hold the different pieces. Here is what my layers palette looks like when I open hands_1.ufo

Re: Photo Impact (.ufo) = ? in PSPX9
All four of those UFOs open without problem in my PSP X9. All the layers show and each is movable and editable. Can we assume that you are opening the image and then using the Pick Tool (see where my green arrow is pointing) rather than the Pan Tool above it? It certainly works for me with the Pick Tool...
In other words, I get the same as LeviFiction.

Same here as Levifiction on Windows 10. Perhaps try a Reset of your program (Start with Shift key held down) - This needs to be placed in a separate post as a sticky for people to try as it gets repeated so many times.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

They also open fine & are individually selectible with the pick tool in X8 & Win 7.

Levi Fiction and all those that replied,
Aren't you a bunch of nice people!
Thanks for the help. I now realize that ".ufo" files in Photo Impact were object files but in PSP they are called layers.
I am now able to navigate for a while thanks to you all. I am sure i will be back with more questions at the next problem...LOL
Thank you for not making me read the owner's manual or take a tutorial!
