Can someone tell me what Smart Render is? They don't have anything about it in the VS X9 manual and I can't find it anywhere. If you know of anyone explaining it anywhere, please let me know.
Thanks

Re: What is Smart Render?
From the help file:
Smart Render
— analyzes a video for any previously rendered sections and renders only the new or revised sections.
This can reduce rendering time significantly
A google search shows:
Corel VideoStudio’s SmartRender feature makes previewing and creating movies a lot faster. When you preview your video project for the first time, VideoStudio ‘renders’ the project by creating a temporary preview file on your hard drive which combines the video, image, and audio clips with the special effects which you applied to them. The SmartRender feature detects any changes in your project and if there are no changes, instantly plays back the preview file. If there are changes (for instance, when titles, video filters or transition effects have been added), it renders out only the edited portions, making render times much shorter and faster.

Re: What is Smart Render?
I found using smart render sometimes makes transitions a bit jerky,So if you see that problem turn it off and see if it plays back better.

Re: What is Smart Render?
I think that's what I can't really understand. Why would you want to see the video with some of the changes missing? How would that be an advantage if you continue editing and forgot that you've already made changes to certain clips? Wouldn't this just confuse things a bit?
I dont' know if I'm explaining this right but it seems like it would be equivalent to making a to-do list but someone blacks out some of the things on the list and you can't see some of them so they don't all get done.

Re: What is Smart Render?
Smart rendering doesn't leave anything out. The video in the project which has not been edited still appears after SmartRendering as the original video in that area is used in the final video as is in its original form. It is only the video which has been edited, or in a different format, which is rendered during SmartRender. The objective is to reduce overall rendering time by not re-rendering those parts of the project which do not need re-rendering.

Re: What is Smart Render?
Ok, so you still see everything that's being edited but it doesn't re-render what's already rendered. If that's what I'm understanding, then that make sense. I wouldn't want anything hidden while I'm working on it.
Thanks Ken.
Thanks Ken.

Re: What is Smart Render?
That's it. The whole project remains in the timeline so you see everything. You edit parts of it, and when your go to Share to produce a new video and have SmartRender enabled, the whole project is rendered -- the edited bits and those parts not having the same format as your final output format are re-rendered, and the unedited parts are not rendered but included in their original form in the new video.

Ok, now I fully understand. Thank you very much for clearing that up for me!
