X8 will not reinstall

So have had VS X8 for a while and has been good. Then all of sudden it would not open. I could click on it nothing would happen. So I uninstalled it thinking to reinstall to see if would start working again. Now it will not install. I goes through the install to where is says it is configuring DirectX. At that point it crashes and gives the message "Installation wizard not completed. Your system not modified.To complete install at another time, please run setup again. Click finish to end." I tried rerunning setup with same results. Does the same thing on either 32bit or 64 bit. I am running Windows 7 Pro, service pack 1. Any ideas how I can get this reinstalled?

When was the last time X8 worked correctly?
Have you update 7SP1 since? well.... this might be the problem.
MS updates do cause problems.

Used VS X8 probably a month or so ago. I am not a pro user and only use it occasionally Windows 7 seems to be updating continuously. That could be the problem but I do not know where it is and how to get VS installed and working again. I could always try by updating the program to X10 but without X8 installed do not know if would update.

If you just use X8 occasionally why to update then? do you need any other tools that in X10.
Try to disable or remove few recent MS update, (you better disable auto updates)

Try running the cleanup tool, there is a post at the top of the forum for tool download
After installing, install the hot fix for x8, also post at top of forum

That did it. Got it installed and now working.
Should I also do the update 8.5, hotfix 85, SP1 and SP3?
