Drawn shapes do not display in selected color

Post by panin29 »

Hello,

I am a casual user who does very simple things with graphics programs: I take screen shots and also do callouts (arrows and text, mostly) on the screen shots. I used Paint Shop Pro x3. Recently that stopped working in Windows 10 and I upgraded to Paint Shop Pro X9. I think this problem is due to my not knowing where the right settings are in the new interface.

There is a marked difference between the results I get in the two programs when I do a simple action:

1. Make a screen shot and paste it in the program

2. Select the rectangle tool

3. Set the line color and make the fill invisible.

4. Draw the rectangle on the screenshot image.

The difference is that in X3 the rectangle line displayed and printed on paper in the exact color I selected in the materials palette.

In X9, the rectangle line initially displays and prints on paper as light grey. I can get it to turn to a pale pastel shade of the original color by selecting "Darken" in the layers panel, but it's still nothing like the shade I selected.

Do you know how I get the exact color I selected to display on the image I am editing?

You have perhaps the "Add texture" checked in the "Material Properties" palette ?

I checked it. If you mean the box that switches you from color swatches to textures swatches, it's always on either color or transparent for me For a hollow border around an image element, color selected on top, transparent selected on the bottom.

...

OK, I found it. My rectangle had a line width of 1px. Anti-aliasing was checked. As soon as I unchecked it, I got the true color. At wider line widths, even 2, you see something close to selected color, but at just 1px the anti-alias effect was as wide as the line, so it looked muted, washed out.
