Hello,
I use Video Studio X8 in two computers, a relatively old laptop with a dual core Pentium CPU and a desktop with a fast 6-core Intel® Core™ i7-5820K CPU. While in the laptop, when converting videos, VS uses almost 100% of the CPU power, in the desktop it uses only about 10%. I changed the process' priority in Windows to the maximum setting (Real Time) but that did not help a bit.
Is there any setting in VS that would allow it to make better use of the CPU power? Or, if not, maybe VS X9 or X10 are better in that sense? I've seen in the comparison table that X9 and X10 can use "Intel® 6th Gen Core Technology (Skylake) Optimization". I don't know what that means but does it help the program to use the CPU power more effectively?
Does anybody know that?
VS X8 does not utilize the CPU power

Hi, this "Optimization" is mainly for H265 encoding.
What type of videos you do?

Re: VS X8 does not utilize the CPU power
Currently I am making an H264 video (converting an NTSC 720x480 DVD to a 848x480 mp4 file). But normally I work with PAL videos and use M4V-SP. In that case VS uses the CPU a little bit better, don't remember exactly, but still much below 100%

Re: VS X8 does not utilize the CPU power
Will try that when I reach my desktop. Will need to see how is the combination of quality and file size for wmv.
But in any case this is not an absolute solution. Why should not VS use the full power of the CPU? Is it a shortcoming of Corel's software? if so, they better fix it.

** quality and file size are matters to be set with the right practical profile for the job in hand.
