how do i layer to make coach sides etc please

Greetings to all,

I am Tom, in my 60s and have had to switch from PSP 7, which, until i went over to O/S win 10, which is rather good as O/S go, had no troubles, but, have now had to up date my software, PSP whys to PSP X 9, and, i am really struggling :( :? .

What i am about is this, i do narrow gauge modelling in 009 mm scale, and, i want to produce all my own rolling stock having also got Autodesk 3DS Max 2014 and pepakura 64 bit software to make and churn out card models of what ever; the art work needed for skinning said models is where i am getting stuck as, the layer tool in PSP 7 was simple, and, very straight forwards to use and understand, starting with a main line drawing of said coach for example, then, the over all base colour as the next layer and using overlay or what ever suited, then the dirt layer, etc etc etc, you all will understand what i am meaning, i just went through this to give an over all idea of what i am about.

Having got hold of many many line drawings of rolling stock, goods and passenger, you can see why i wish to go this route and use as i would off done, had i still been using PSP 7, but, as much as i have read, and, followed the you tube tutorials, i am TOTALLY confused and very much lost; i accept my age etc etc is perhaps against me, learning wise   , but, i get their in the end, so, could any kind person try to help and explain what i should be doing as i find the operation as opposed to PSP 7 very difficult to understand, sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum to place this, but, i could not seem to find any where else that seemed to be right!!!????.

Many thanks in anticipation of some helpful advice etc etc, and thanks for what looks like a very nice site/forum indeed......Best regards to all................Tom......... :) 8)
