*Still* no thumbnails for ".pspimage" files - Windows 10.x

Post by mounsey »

Hi all-

First of all.. I *have* checked (scoured!) this forum in case there was already a fix (and one that actually worked..) for this issue - but alas, I cannot find one.

The issue is simple: I (still) cannot see / never get thumbnails for ".pspimage" formatted files on my Windows 10.x system (64 bit, latest stable "build" etc.).

I'm on the 64 bit version of PaintShop Pro X9 - and believe I have the latest patches etc. installed.

However, I can't recall getting / seeing thumbnails for pspimage files on *any* recent build / version I've had.

Now, I know this could well be Windows 10.x to blame - I appreciate and understand that. However.. despite bad press elsewhere, I personally have had little or no issues whatsoever with Windows 10.x.

Except for this!

So.. I guess my initial question is a simple one: Does anyone else have this same problem?

(and if "Yes", have you managed to solve it? I'm reluctant to uninstall PSP X9 as I am otherwise very happy with it - and what's more I'm pretty sure I've given this a try already (with no success).).

I'm also certainly not planning on touching Windows 10 - as again it's fine on everything else (and no plans to delve into the Registry either!!).

Help me.. someone! It's amazing just how much productivity I feel like I'm genuinely losing by simply no longer being able to see thumbnail images for .pspimage files :( (which I use all the time..).

Cheers,
John.

Hi,

If you mean the Windows file explorer, have you tried rebuilding the thumbnail and icon caches? You have to delete existing caches first, then Windows can rebuild them, hopefully correcting any database corruption.

Good luck.

As asked above, are you not seeing them in Windows File Exlporer, or is it in PSP's Manage tab, or both? If only the first, why not use Manage mode to explore the folders instead of Windows File Explorer?

Thanks for the responses so far. Must admit I hadn't considered the Windows icons cache, as didn't realise that could still be an issue with 10.x.

I'll try that first and report back with my findings!

Cheers, John.

OK.. so I've tried something different first - using this:
Attempt 1.png
(which went through OK.. but no change post reboot - see below):
The result (no change, post reboot)
The result (no change, post reboot)
Is using the Windows built-in "Disk Clean-up" tool (and this option) the same as amending / deleting those "Cache" files as one or more earlier replies suggested?

Nb. See how all is OK on image #2.. *except* for the ".pspimage" files (still).

I've never had problems with Windows and PSP, so it's just trying things out.

In that dialog, you cleared Thumbnails, but does that also clear Icons?
You'll find Thumbcache_*.db and Iconcache_*.db files in: Drive:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer.

Again, just trying things because it should not be necessary to use third-party software to view .pspimages in Explorer.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give this a try too soon. John.

Just a quick FYI - PSP Handler Setup from Bot Productions integrates itself into Windows File Explorer. No need to run third-party software to view "pspimage" files.

Hi. I've tried this - and also the freeware tool linked to from a prior reply.. but sadly I still get no thumbnails for ".pspimage" or older ".psp" image files.

Running out of options here.. really frustrating! Thanks again for the offer of help and tips though, means a lot.
