VSUX8 burning AVCHD discs

Post by Murray007 »

I only burn DVDs a couple of times a year so maybe I have forgotten a step. I completed a project and burned a DVD format disc successfully. When I tried to burn an AVCHD format DVD, it appeared to burn properly but would not play past the menu. I have tried burning both from the SHARE tab and from the EDIT>Tools area. I click on both create disc and create AVCHD folders. Neither is successful. Even though I read you can't create .iso files for AVCHD or BluRay, I tried anyway but couldn't find any resulting .iso file. Ideas? (Previous attempts to make AVCHD discs have worked fine.)

On an unrelated matter, in C VS Pro/18.0/DMF_TEMP/CvtedTitle are many pairs of files, a UPD file of 1 or 2 KB and a corresponding "Movie Clip" file of several GB in size. This directory is over 50GB in size now. Are these files necessary to keep if there is a chance I need to burn another DVD disc in the future or can they safely be deleted to free up the space?

Thanks!

You are correct in that you cannot create or use .iso files to burn an AVCHD disc - this is why Videostudio does not offer the option to do so.

Instead it offers the option to create FOLDERS - these folders are then just copied to a blank DVD to create an AVCHD disc

on your computer look in the location you specified for a folder named "BDMV" - this will contain 8 folders and a couple of files

you create an AVCHD disc by simply copying the BDMV folder complete to the blank disc

. You can delete all the files etc inside the /CvtedTitle folder without problems - - if you do need to create another disc from an old project Videostudio will create the necessary files again

Thanks BrianCee.
I copied the BDMV folder to a blank disc and put it in the player. The result was the same as before - just the main menu shows up, I select play and nothing happens (the screen goes dark for a couple of seconds and then the main menu comes back).

With respect to the CvtedTitle files, double clicking on the Movie Clip files plays the video. Can these be copied to a flash drive? Since I have burned DVD format videos successfully and tried several times for the AVCHD format, is there any chance one of these Clips is an actual AVCHD version that could go on a flash drive? And if so, could it be copied from flash drive to a disc and be playable?

Thanks again.

Another option is to use Share to create a file (top option) in either MPEG-2 (for SD DVD) or AVC/H.264 (for DVD playable on a Blu-Ray player) Find the file in the Folder shown on the Share page i.e. C:\Users\*******\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\18.0\. Check to see if it performs as you want then copy the file to a DVD or to a memory card.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Thanks for this. I did as suggested and it put 2 files into C:/My Documents/My Corel Shows. Let's use M as the filename.
The first file is 3.8GB, has name M and is type "AVCHD Video" and, looking into Properties, I see the extension .m2t . If I double click on it, it plays fine on the computer.
The second file is 2KB, has name M with extension .upd
When I created these files, the on-screen info says that "This format is recommended for projects that you want to save to AVCHD discs at a later time". VSUX8 doesn't say how to do this last step however. You say that I can "copy the file [not 2 files like it actually produced] to a DVD or to a memory card". "Copy" won't produce a disc I can put in a Blu-Ray player though, will it? Don't I just get a data disc (or data flash drive or memory card)? Sorry, my level of technical expertise is not very high.
