Capturing Resolution Help Needed

Post by Floatingduk »

I installed VideoStudio 9 a few days ago and the first time I used it the capturing looked great. I can't remember what the settings were but I didn't bother to remember because it looked amazing.

It's been a day or two since I last opened Ulead but now the capturing looks terrible. The highest setting I can set it to is 320x240.

I havent changed any settings or installed or unistalled anything inbetween my uses. I'm using the same USB port as well.

I have a Dell
Intel pentium 4 - 2.40 GHz
512 RAM
30 free GB HD

I'm not sure about my capturing device or where to find out what I have. I'm just very confused because it was working perfectly before.

Any suggestions on how to get my resolution any higher again?

A USB capture device plugged into a hub could well be restricted to USB 1.1 speeds if any of the other devices plugged into the hub are running at USB 1.1 speeds. USB 1.1 with a maximum speed of 12Mbps is not fast enough for smooth high-resolution captures.

Assuming you have a USB 2.0 capture device, try plugging it directly into a USB port on your computer. Once that is done, access the Options dialog in the Capture screen to see what capture settings are available -- they will depend on the device and the drivers for it.

I've been using USB ports and have tried all of them. Sometimes under options I have the 640x resolution available but after I select ok and begin capturing the setting reverts to the lower 320x resolution.

I have confirmed I have a 2.0 USB capture device.

I just don't understand how it could go from working so well to barely working without me having changed anything.

It's very important you tell us what capture device you are using.

Also confirm that your computer has USB 2.0. Check Device manger in control panel. If anything, make sure you are using the plugs in the back of the computer. Sometimes the ones up front are only USB 1 or are more easily disconnected since they are not directly on the motherboard.
