Re: Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
For Ver X9, I could run individual installers to force the preferred install drive. Ver X10 doesn't allow installing except via the master installer.
Had I seen this thread sooner (I just bought today, and just joined here), I would have probably skipped buying X10.

Re: Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
Regarding x10, there's been a trial of misleading information (fibbing, not to put too fine a point on it: once is happenstance, twice is coincidence and three times is enemy action) from Corel about a preferred install folder facility - so, to summarise
- it was basic to the original (ulead) VS, and it's been in every VS version since Corel took over ulead in 2006
- it was in the beta 1 and 2 test releases for x10, but removed thereafter, no reason given. Many bugs reported especially about how it crashed PC's trying to do that preferred folder thing. All the VS competitors have that facility, and a few of the beta testers made critical comment/comparisons about that during beta test
- After the storm of complaints in the beta test program about the lack of a preferred installation folder in later beta versions, the beta manager said that this facility would be addressed after formal release in early Feb. More complaints were registered - this facility is so basic you don't just "patch it" - it would have to be uninstalled (from the default C drive), patched (somehow - eg replace a specific file or files with newer ones) or entirely replaced, and then re-installed in the preferred folder. At least 10% of the beta testers have refused in writing it install X10 without that feature,
- after release, new users registered complaints about it in this forum,
- shortly after x10 was released mid feb2017, the beta manager announced to the tes group that a preferred folder facility was going to be included (every outstanding logged bug was the terminology used) with the 1st service pack due on 1 mar. That service pack did make it out just after 1 april, but there is no preferred folder facility and apparently more bugs are still to be addressed.
There's been further commentary on this to the effect that a preferred install folder might make it back for the next full version (X11). But in light of the track record (for not delivering on intent) so far, holding your breath for it is not recommended. If you really want this facility and like vs, find a store (box DVD) version of x9. Now that it's superseded, a sale price might be on offer.

While not all that was way back in older versions should be continued (Corel better correct ancient bugs..) certain things needs to justify their change, installation path isn't one of them.Davidk wrote:.....

So with all bugs considered, X9 with only SP2 applied is unfortunately the preferred version to keep and use at the moment.
