Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
If your system partition is nearly full, don't buy the X10 version !!
It is not possible to choose the installation folder (as confirmed with the support by chat - won't work if installed elsewhere - and there is no option to do so).
The Ultimate version consumes nearly 10 GB on the system partition. If you're short in space, choose another software.
***** Corel programmers !
It is the first time I get a software from a well-known editor where the installation folder cannot be choosen.

Yeah... that's not really good. If you have a computer with a relatively small SSD as many have, it does make life more complicated.
Maybe they will fix it ......

I agree..... especially in this day and age of people getting computers with SSD or m.2 drives.

Re: Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
It seems there is another problem, the X10 version is a beta or alpha version : now my Windows 7 Ultimate is in test mode (as displayed in the below right corner of the desktop).
Interesting, isn't it ?

Thomas -- could you give a bit more detail of what you are seeing, or take a screen shot and upload it here as an attachment. I ask since I am not sure what you mean by your Windows 7 being in "test mode".
In X10, in Help > About, what version are you seeing?

Re: Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
The attached picture is what I see (only part of my screen) on the lower right corner of my desktop (in french), no application window opened.
This message was displayed after my first reboot following X10 setup. And remains now.
It seems that are ways to discard it, but I wonder what why my Windows switched to this mode and what this curious mode hides now.

Re: Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
Merci bien, Thomas! I confess I had never heard of this "test mode" before, though I see now that Microsoft explains that it can be started when a new program is installed using drivers that have not been digitally signed by Microsoft. Windows thus assumes that the newly installed program is still in a test (alpha/beta) phase. As you say, Microsoft provides a couple of solutions to this.
However, I can only repeat that I had never heard of this before, nor seen that sort of message. I often install programs that use drivers not signed by Microsoft. In Windows 10, and IIRC also Windows 7, I would simply get a message telling me that it had not been signed, but asking if I want to install it anyway. I say OK and the program installs and runs fine.
Moreover, during the beta testing of VS X10, many of the beta testers (from various parts of the world, including France) were using Windows 7, yet no one ever reported having their computer put into test mode. And in my own experience under Windows 10, I did not even receive a message from Windows telling me that anything associated with X10 had not been signed by Microsoft and asking if I wanted to install it anyway. So I am even more puzzled as to why it reacted like that for you.
Corel is now releasing X10 as a public version, meaning that for them the beta testing phase is finished.
So I am afraid all I can suggest is that you try one of the methods Microsoft suggests to turn off that "test mode" message.

Re: Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
Hi Ken,
Thanks for your answer... which doesn't explain what happens on my system.
Of course I'll try to disable this test mode (undone until now).
Other than that, I don't understand why the beta testers didn't complain about the fact that it is not possible to install X10 into any wished folder, outside of the system partition.
It's a giant step backwards, especially now where system disks are frequently "small" SSD disks (128/256 GB) used with other ordinary hard drives for apps and data.
As a former Windows developer (from Windows 1.0 at the end of '85 to XP), I can't understand how a developer can forget to consider such a feature.
Hope this will be fixed in a very near future.
Thomas

Re: Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
Believe me -- this was the biggest and continuing complaint of the beta testers. Corel say they are working on a solution but we have no idea when this might happen... though hopefully, as you say, it will come soon!ThomasScarpone wrote:Other than that, I don't understand why the beta testers didn't complain about the fact that it is not possible to install X10 into any wished folder, outside of the system partition.

We complained for months about that lack of preferred install folder, especially since it's been in every prior version of VS I can remember . . . .

Re: Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
I understand where everyone is coming from. I too think you should be able to install it where you have the space and want it to be installed. But I do have a problem with this one sentence,
Beta testing can be a thankless (in a way) and frustrating job, but is a labor of "love" for the product and the community. I applaud the X10 beta testers who had to sit through this release not being what they wanted, including not being able to install it on another drive. Now... about TSM crashing X10....
My problem with this sentence is the presumption that the beta testers did nothing at all about it. I've beta tested other products (and still do). When people make an assumption that the product was not tested or how did the beta testers allow something to pass through.... well, beta testers are just that..... TESTERS. Testing the product and reporting back the good and bad. It's not up to them to decide when a product is released or what is or is not fixed.ThomasScarpone wrote: Other than that, I don't understand why the beta testers didn't complain about the fact that it is not possible to install X10 into any wished folder, outside of the system partition.

Re: Beware with Corel VideoStudio X10 !!!
My version? No update for it. So have to wait. It's just as stable for "me" has it has always been. I have a 3TB C: drive, so installing it, I did not have a "space" problem.
Still dabbling with some of the features. Triple Scoop Music is a bust.... I have to use TaskManager to exit the program if I click on it. But I don't use it any way.
