Hi guys,
I'm just wondering if there's a fix for this. In some videos I'm editing, when I click the play button under project to preview it, it will play like 1 second then stop. I can click play as many times as i like and it just moves 1 second or so then stops. Anyone got a fix?

Re: Freezing while playing in project mode
Hi
There are so many different video formats available for video editors cope with, with unusual codecs do cause some problems.
Video from Iphone are particularly suspect as they may use a variable frame rate.
Even so a new camera or phone will be released tomorrow using a different video codec, leaves the video editors playing catchup.
For HD type video the program can use Smart Proxy files that does improve editing and project playback.
There are two playback options, Clip playback will play individual clips whilst Project playback plays the entire timeline.
Now if you were to tell us what type of video you are using, Right click a clip and choose properties what are they? We may have son idea as to why your playback is giving problems.
Also tell us where you got the video from.
Lastly your profile showing to the right of your post does not give much info regarding your pc spec, it may be that your pc is not capable of editing HD video, have you installed windows to the H drive?
As the program is so buggy, just what else does it not do?

Re: Freezing while playing in project mode
I assume its not my PC i have a fairly high good computer. It plays the clips and i can even move the clips and audio files to the end of my timeline edit them there it will play it in project mode to! But as soon as i move them to the start of my video it will no longer play the beginning of my video in project mode, its really weird. The file format is MPEG-f file and the video type is H.264...Its GoPro footage.

Re: Freezing while playing in project mode
First off, when you start a new project, and put the first clip in the timeline, do you get a message asking if you want the Project Properties to match those of the clip? If not, go to Preferences > General and tick the box beside "Show message when inserting first video clip in timeline". That way you are at least assured that everything is matching up, and this will often be important in getting Project playback to play smoothly (or more smoothly). It will also allow you, at the end of editing, to produce a new video of the whole project using Share > Same As Project Settings.
That being said, though, it really sounds to me as though you should be using SmartProxy as Trevor has already suggested above. This produces a standard definition copy ("proxy") of your high def video from the GoPro. This copy will play smoothly. You apply your edits to it, and when satisfied, at the end, the edits are applied to the high def originals. Note that the process of making the proxies takes some time, so you need to be patient.

Re: Freezing while playing in project mode
Its not the end of the world just makes me have to move the start of my movie to the end, edit it then move it back lol. I've always had smart proxy on and the "show message when inserting first video clip in timeline.
Re: Freezing while playing in project mode
I found that setting your project preferences to the lowest frame size and frame rate makes it play faultlessly in the project window.
Keep in mind that your original HD files are still there and when you do your final render, it creates the final file at the preferences you select and grabs them from the original hd files.
Hope that makes sense
Cheers
Mick

Re: Freezing while playing in project mode
What you describe sounds suspiciously like what SmartProxy does...
