Reasons to upgrade X4?
I think there was an offer a while back for upgrading to X9 but when I was looking at reviews a lot of people seem to wish they hadn't upgraded as they had problems or felt the newer versions didn't offer much improvement on the older versions.
What are people on here experiences?
And perhaps more specifically what reasons are there to upgrade.

Re: Reasons to upgrade X4?
Just look at the advertising blurb on the Corel web site and decide if all these "extras" are good for you. For example I find Audio Ducking very useful for voiceovers when there is a music background. Multi camera editing is a big addition.
The basics are still there but now work better and are easier to use. There are more effects in FX and so on. I, personally, have had few problems with VideoStudio and find it much more stable than an old version of Pinnacle Studio which I changed from when it crashed my PC in a spectacular fashion.
Its a bit like buying a new car. All the extras you thought you would never need, such as power steering or air conditioning, are there and you wonder how you managed without them in the past.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Thanks Terfyn
I'm sure my son would appreciate some of them!
So no stability issues?

Re: Reasons to upgrade X4?
You could also wait until March when VSX10 will be released, one of the main benefits is that VSX4 is only 32 bit whereas from VSX7 64 bit is also available.
I find VS to be a very stable program, as do many others, then there are users that seem to have numerous issues, it just seems to depend on your computer setup, you could try downloading the VSX9 trial and test it on your system, bare in mind that the trial is limited in available functions, but if it works OK, then consider upgrading to VSX10

Re: Reasons to upgrade X4?
One other good reason to upgrade is that with X4, when you inserted a clip into the timeline, you only got a message asking if you wanted the project properties to match largely only with standard definition formats. Given that nowadays most people are filming in high definition, the fact that recent versions of VS now ask the same thing when high def clips are added is a major bonus, especially if you intend to output to the same format. Then you can use the Share > Same As Project Settings option to good effect.

Hi
The original offer to purchase X9 at 80% discount was such a good deal that you should have purchased
If you are still seeing the offer, check the price, don’t hesitate.
Some other offers were between75% to 10%

Re: Reasons to upgrade X4?
Also since X4 the wonderful "Customise Motion" has been introduced - one tool allows you to move a clip anywhere - fade in /fade out - grow/shrink - rotate - almost every thing you could want to do one tool does under your exact control.
For many people "track motion" is also a marvellous new addition - arrange for any object to track exactly the motion of another - halos or arrows on a person - - blur on a face or licence plate.
plus you can now have up to 20 overlay tracks and 8 music tracks - so you can have lots going on at the same time
for me Videostudio is extremely stable - I wouldn't still be using it after 15 years if it wasn't

Re: Reasons to upgrade X4?
Cheers people.
Some food for thought.
Not quite convinced yet but I guess the 64 bit and Windows developments plus some features that sound interesting means I will keep an eye out for new versions and offers.

Hi
Run X4, go to the Corel Guide the Orange disc top right
Check your messages, if there is one for X9 at a discount then maybe use that.
As I said the original discount was 80%, for uk was £20, given that X10 will be released shortly I guess there will be no further discount for X9
Corel are offering discounts on pre orders for X10. That may show in messages and when closing the program.

Re: Reasons to upgrade X4?
I'm with Trevor. Go for X9. Prices will also drop on Amazon where you will get the boxed disk set. You can then update to X10 (when it comes out) if you feel the "extras" would benefit your use.
As Brian says, the basics are so much better than the older versions but there is little advantage in waiting for the latest offering if the current version will do all you want. I started with X5 and worked up to X9 and still have a copy of 6,7and 8.

Re: Reasons to upgrade X4?
A "forever" Pinnacle user that finds it very stable. Never crashed my computer. Also, I've had VS since X4. I find it too stable.
Like other posters noted, that's a great price for X9 (and I would only opt for the Ultimate version). Look at the features in X9U and then compare that with what would be added if you bought X10U. You might be happy with just X9 and save some money.
The only way to really find out if it's stable is to actually use it on your computer. There is an infinite number of variations of software and hardware. Download the free trial (it won't have the extras) and see if you like it. But at 80% off.... wow.

I think the 80% offer is long gone, but you never know if viewing the messages that offer may be found, certainly worth a look.TonyP wrote:. But at 80% off.... wow.
Post updated
At present the purchase of CVSX10 Pre Release Offer- is cheaper than purchasing CVSX9, Corel UK site

A little behind the times here, yes. But again.... 80% off.... wow!!! For me, it's a no brainer!
