Do you see the same details when viewing the Device Manager.
Confirmed: My Device Manager Driver screen is identical to Brian's.
EDIT: Also confirmed, VS still is unable to recognize my camcorder. :x

There is the possibility of course that it is working - but you also reported a problem viewing your videos in the preview window - and if that is not working then perhaps nothing will show

Can you confirm that no videos show in the preview - whatever their format

Can you also confirm that that statement is true in both 'clip' and 'project' mode

can we then eliminate the simple bits -- can you go to "settings >> Preferences" and in the window which opens confirm that the dropdown against "Project playback > Instant project playback" is saying 'preview window'

Hi

On the same lines as Brians thoughts, Video Studio has 4 sample Mpg videos here:-

C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X10\Content\Video

Are you able to play those samples :?:

In the meantime I will dig out my old Mini DV camcorder to make sure that CVSX9 does indeed allow capture as I have not use that for a while.

I can confirm that it does indeed Trevor - no problem at all once I had the correct driver for the firewire X9.6 and other versions of Videostudio all work perfectly on Windows 10

So yes I know that it will/can work jch39 because using that setup of X9.6 on Windows 10 I have just recaptured the whole of the very first DV tape I ever made - China and the Yantze River cruise 2000

Hi

Things are also looking good at my end

I have installed the Legacy driver, don’t think I needed that but…….

This is what I see.......

1 / when I turn on my camera windows recognises that and shows a message lower right of my desktop.
Device Manager shows my camera as image.
jch39 - do you see these details or similar.
jch39 - do you see these details or similar.
2 / Turn off camera
3 / Open capture tab – click Capture Video, top option, for me the program reports No Capture Device….
4 / Turn on Camera, windows again reports Digital Video Device
Video Studio reports New device is plugged into your computer. I OK that and my camera shows in Source panel, my camera pre-rolls to show video frame in preview screen.
5 / I set :-
Format as DV
Type a meaningful file name.
Set Capture folder
Select Split by Scene, my personal preference.
6 / Press Capture, starts capture

One setting I missed from Preferences (F6) set “show dropped frames” from Capture tab.
I would not expect any dropped frames.

Now I have rolled back the legacy driver, no difference still able to capture DV.

Other Possibilities:
1. VS is still in Trial Mode. Is it possible that Capture is not supported?
2. The Preview Window works OK in clip mode for the MP4 and wmv sample clips, not for my Mpeg 2 video. Nothing happened in project mode for any of the clips.
3. Preferences has Project playback = "Preview window"
4. Found C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9\Content\Video files. They are mpeg files and do not play in preview window (black acreen)!!! Mpeg2 videos NTSC01 and NTSC02
5. EDIT: VS crashed when I tried to open Multi-Trim Video on NTSC01. When I restarted, the videos NTSC01 and NTSC02 had disappeared from Library.

The upgrade offered the choice and I took it, given doubts about Corel tech support...

Hi

Unfortunately the trial version is a limited program, we do not have that much faith in that.
However what you describe seems to go further than just blaming the trial.

It is of course possible that the Trial version is at fault, but I do not think so, unless the installation is corrupt.
The problem with playback of MPEG video is strange, it will/should play ok using the trial.
Are you able to play those files using your media players, not Video Studio?

Capturing DV needs no special software, at least no recoding, its just a matter of transferring the data, the trial should cope with that.
A free program called WinDV was able to capture DV video, at least using Windows 7, don’t know if Windows 10 is supported.

Windows Movie Maker afaik was capable of capturing DV, cannot find that on Window s10?????

You seem to be having to much going wrong just to blame the trial, maybe I am wrong?

Can you uninstall the trial, delete the download files, then download and install again.

Help/About says "Corel Video Studio 19.6.0.1 (64bit Ultimate)". It is a registered, purchased "Update" to my old VS version. The installation was clean to the new computer. The Trial was presented as a 30 day money-back sales program. The only caveat was it could not burn DVDs. I assumed it would not be crippled in other ways. I was able to install the official update from 19.5.. to 19.6.. with no problems.
The doubts about Corel Tech Support seem to be well founded. I opened a Corel ticket on the capture problem a week ago and the only response has been to send me a copy of the user manual section on how to capture from camcorder...

Hi

So now you are running the full version of video studio, is all working correctly?

OR
1 / Do you still have problems playing those MPEG2 sample files, do they still show as black?

2 / We provided you with an image of the Device Manager showing the IEEE and Imaging Devices. You did not comment on those, do you see the Imaging Device showing your camcorder?
Those details will/should show irrespective of VS being open.

1. There has been no change in the behavior of VS9 The sample Mpegs still show as black and capture does not work. 2. Sorry, I had failed to check the device manager Imaging Devices at the moment of camcorder turn on. In fact, I hear the audible beep but Imaging Devices does NOT display a camera icon! This shifts my suspicions to back to the driver. Somehow, even though the driver Properties in the Device Manager, are identical to Brian's, it must be wrong... IMHO, we should recheck the Microsoft link to the 1394 Legacy drivers. I might have made the wrong choice there. Please re post the MS link.
