When I double click jpeg images that I have taken my self that usually open in PSpro X5, I get a message" Unable to open file, please verify file is valid".So I tried to open them via file open and when I navigate to the pics I notice that the ones that will not open have a pad lock next to them. Can any one tell what is going on here, why it has happened and how do I sort the problem.

Re: Unable to open file, please verify file is valid
Have you tried checking the properties of the files under Windows Explorer to see how they differ from the files you can open?

Re: Unable to open file, please verify file is valid
1 Most of the pics I took are now not showing the date taken which has been the case up until now
2 All of the files concerned are jpegs
3 All imported jpegs open in PSPro and have the date showing when I hover over the image on the hard drive.
4 I think this is something to do with the padlocks that show as if they are protected or the like.
5The thing is that all the images that now will not open have previously done so so, something has somehow changed to cause this issue

Have you checked the security settings of each file or the ownership?

It looks like It might have something to do with Sharing in Windows 7.
I found an article about file and folder locks that looks interesting.
And another possibility from Microsoft: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... d2dbe10287

Re: Unable to open file, please verify file is valid
There are two ways of removing the lock icon.
Method 1:
a. Right click on the folder and click on “Properties”.
b. Go to the tab “Sharing”.
c. Click on “Share”.
d. Select the usergroup from the dropdown e.g. Everyone if you want to share it with everyone and then click on Share to remove the lock from the folder.
The usergroup “Everyone” will have access to the folder then. The folder no longer has special permissions and Windows 7 will therefore remove the lock icon.
Method 2:
a. Right click on the folder and click on“Properties”.
b. Go to the tab “Security”.
c. Click on the “Advanced” button at the bottom.
d. Click on “Change Permission”.
e. Select your user account and check the option “Include inheritable permissions from this object’s parent”.
f. Click on apply to remove the lock icon.
The lock icon will be removed because the folder now inherits the permission of the parent folder. If that folder does not have any special permissions you will successfully remove the lock from the folder.
I followed method 1 , in item e of method 2 “Include inheritable permissions from this object’s parent” was already selected. So I am still unable to open the images mentioned

Re: Unable to open file, please verify file is valid
If any one is interested I have found a solution to my problem.Fortunately, I had the offending images on a CD.I copied and pasted/replaced the images in the hard drive , as soon as this was done I was encouraged by the fact that on hovering over them they showed the date of being taken and showed the image. They all opened up in PSPro.But I still have no idea why this happened in the !st place because I had made no changes anywhere. They were the same files from the same source
