Saving Projects and Proxy Files

Post by 91lespaul »

I'm brand new to VideoStudio, so maybe these are basic questions but I'm having a couple issues. First, I'm using VideoStudio Ultimate X9.

What I have is 2.5 hours of footage of my band playing live, shot on 4 different cameras. I'm trying to break them up into separate projects per song. I've figured out how to bring the files into MultiCamera mode for editing and transitions. I read that I should be creating proxy files for these to decrease resources required, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to create them. Right clicking on the thumbnail does not give the option, and going through the many I don't have any files to select from.

So far I've worked on two songs, saving them as separate projects. When I try to open previous project it pretty much appears to be the last saved project. Also, why does it not keep the multicamera data? Same thing happens when I go back to timeline view, multicamera data is gone. I want to be able to go back and edit. Seems like the assumption is that you did everything perfect in multicamera mode for editing the first time, and once you change out of it it's gone.

Hoping I'm just missing something fundamental.

Hi and welcome to the forum

To enable Smart Proxy, go to Settings/Preferences/Performance and enable smart proxy, then Select a size from the "Create proxy when video size is above" note the location of the folder where proxy files are stored, also be aware that proxy file creation can take some time, depending on the size of your project, so be patient

Hi 91lespaul

There is also Proxy Settings available from MCE via the Settings Cogwheel top left.

After closing MCE you are prompted to save the project, then you return to the main edit timelines.
The MCE project file has been placed in the library.
Drag that thumbnail to the top timeline and drop.
That should open the project as you set in MCE allowing you to continue editing.

This is the workflow I would use.
1 / Start a New Project
2 / Create a new library page ( ADD) and import my camera recordings.
3 / Drag the main camera video to the top timeline, that is to allow the program to match the video properties, mainly to match the frame rate of my video. Remove the clip.
4 / Select my clips (Shift + Click) from the library, right click for Multi Camera Editor ( or icon below preview screen)
5 / The Source Manager opens, check the videos are in the correct order. Then OK
6 / From the MCE Settings Cogwheel I save the project to give it a meaningful name.
8 / From the MCE complete the audio sync and camera selections.
7 / OK takes me back to the timelines, my project has been saved to the library.
8 / Drag that thumbnail to the timelines, that opens the project in its expanded view ready for editing. ( timeline frame rate should be correct as set in 3 above.)
Holding Shift and drop will insert as a single clip, (flattened video)
This creates a new project and does not affect the MCE project

9 / From the library double click the MCE vsp thumbnail will open the MCE editor, allowing me to continue editing my original project.
