X9 save "Same as first clip"

Post by Old Grey »

In X 9.5 how do you save something "Same as first clip" like in VS11.5.

It turns up for newer files like that 1080p OBS file, but I want to use it on a simple MPEG2 and there doesn't seem to be any MPEG2 anymore.

Hi

I believe that option using VS11 was via the drop down menu.
View Brian’s image, immediately above the MPEG2, tick the box to access Same as First Clip.

No, I only have "Same as Project Settings". That's all that's on the drop down.

I don't have the MPEG2 and AVC/H.264 boxes in that pic either.

Post a screenshot of what you are seeing.
What program are you running? Your signature says V11.5 but we are using Vs X9.

If you are using VS X9 and you dont see the MPEG-2 and AVC option then there is something wrong with your setup

And can you confirm it is the full version of X9 and not the trial version... though even with that you should have at least the mpeg-2 option.

Also are you in the 'clip' area of Share i.e. the top icon to the right of the preview screen (shown highlighted in gold in Brian's photos above) and not, say, the disc icon further down...

Still waiting for the full X9 so this is still the trial, but I would have thought that they would give you the simple ones like MPEG2. The registration window doesn't come up anymore so I don't know how I would add the key when it comes either.

Even when you edit this simple clip the picture distorts in the play window when things move, so I don't know what's going on there either.

Hi

How long have you been running the trial?

When you say you are waiting for the full version, I assume you have purchased that, How long have you been waiting?

Did you purchase the disc / box version or the download version.

To install full version you should first Uninstall the trial, then install the full version.

15 days. I have the trial on 3 PCs, so various times really.

The full boxed X9 version is coming from the US.

After I updated Quicktime it could do .MOV, so I would assume the trial can do old MPG2 too. I think the limitation is 4K because I didn't see it in there.

Oddly enough I found some old 2013 GoPro3 1080p 30fps H.264 ACC vids we did and they don't lag, but when you edit it in the timeline it corrupts the clip like with that OBS 1080p clip.

That sucks. Everyone I PM-ed with similar problems gave up on X9, resulting in 5 lost sales.

There doesn't look like there is any difference between the trial and full version, just the 30 day limitation, because when you download it Corel tell you to keep the folder in a safe place in case you have to reinstall it, like it is the full program. I bet no one is getting a new download file when they buy it, just the keys, and that means that my Win 7 is missing something that you guys have, which is probably the same problem as other people are having.

I've tried the X9.5 download, and a X9 download with the 3 SP's, still no go. I have the msmpeg2xxx.dll's, but they don't show in installed codecs.

There is a big difference between the trial and the full retail version. For example, the trial version has no option to create a standard DVD. Many other features/options are also disabled or missing.

With your fooling around so much, you have probably screwed up your whole system.

Many posts have told you that the trial version is basically useless.

As canuck says, there is a vast difference between the trial and full versions. When you buy the download version, you will get a link to the packages you need to download. In fact it has been our practice ever since I have been on this Board -- and that's a long time now -- to tell me always to uninstall the trial version, whichever number it was, before installing the purchased version. Simply using a full version serial number in a trial version caused endless problems.

With the trial version, Corel really shot themselves in the foot with X8 and X9/X9.5. As a cost-cutting exercise, the chopped out absolutely anything for which they would have to pay third parties a licence fee. That included most of the codecs. So essentially what you get are free codecs such as those which come as part of Windows. Other things are also either crippled or missing. We told Corel with X8 and again with X9 that people would get completely the wrong idea about the program -- just as you have -- but as we sadly all know, they refused to listen...

Have you actually tested that. Just get Paragon and do a drive image and put that on another drive, or visualize your PC, and install the trial and tell me how you go.

I've just put X7 trial on a Win7 PC that doesn't like X9, and that OBS file edits fine and it saves to MPEG-2 fine, and looking over X7 trial it has everything, 4K, DVD maker, screen cap, etc, that the full version has.

X9 might be different, but it looks like a myth like the power myth. I will bet the actual program is the trial, because you just put the key in to the trial to get the full version.

Be brave and try it and do people a solid, because if you can find the truth you could stop people discarding Videostudio all the time.

Old gray I don't understand your path.
As I read most of your forum posts, you are at a T junction, either to dump VS and move to other ~90$ NLE or to dump OBS for other screen capture software (like the one that comes with VS).
You don't let your computer 95min (while you are having diner) converting your "troubled" clips to other codec that will work fine in VS, but you are happily willing to spend 278min of your time doing other trials.

*** And yes, there is a big difference between X7 trials and the X8-9 ones.

I wish it was only OBS, but it's every MPG video I have.

The only reason I have VS is because it can "Save same as first clip", because it's very fast, and X9 doesn't like MPGs on my PCs

Trust me the trial is the same as full, Corel adds extras sometime as an incentive to buy, and that's the only extras.
