Corel Newsgroups are to cease

Post by Joelle »

As from the end of January 2017.

Very sad, but not unexpected.
I don't know why this has been decided now, but it has. Cost? Trimming something?

"The groups are very old".. hmm, so am I, I hope no-one will shut me down just yet.

In case any of the Corel people take a look at this board (hah): Most participants of the very active Photography group won't be moving to Farcebook, which is much disliked going by the comments.

Another successful way to promote PSP, not :-((

I know it doesn't help, but you could always start up a Google Group/listserv. It would act in a very similar way through your email. It's always easier and better when a central authority makes these things because then it's one place for everyone to go. Instead of everyone running off and making their own hoping it'll pull in the same people.

When you say Newsgroups, do you mean the forums, or is that something different?

Corel has newsgroups, which I access via WLM. (Any newsreader will do : cnews.corel.com)
The newsgroups have been running for a very long time. The PSP newsgroups were active from 2004 to now.
They used to be mentioned on the Corel website.
Then Corel decided we should all go elsewhere, the list is too long to mention, but the latest is Farcebook.
For years I have been asking for the groups to be reinstated on the website, but Corel people having serious hearing problems.
Now the plug has been pulled and the groups will cease as already mentioned.

We have found a new home on the news.dogagent.com server.
The newly formed group is called PaintShopPro_Photography.
That is for the time being, we have requested a name change to just Photography, meaning everyone is welcome.
We run fortnightly photo challenges, which are hosted by two contributors in Sydney.
