Clicked burn ”Convert step got some problems” shows
Previous to clicking burn, I checked the “cog wheel”. It showed DVD NTCS and 29.97 fps in the Project settings box.I clicked change mpeg settings then customise. It would not allow me change from NTSC to PAL in the compression tab media type field of the video save options box.I could change the quality to 100 and the audio type to match my actual project settings. In the gen tab the frame rate was 29.97 and size was 720x 480 which could not be changed .I went ahead and clicked burn anyway and got a message saying “convert step got some problems. I am starting to wish I kept with VSX7

Was the "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" box ticked in the Project Settings icon? (Normally is by default in X9...)

In the Settings and Options icon to the left of it (i.e. the first of the icons in the bottom left of the burning screen), did you have PAL/SECAM selected under Disc Template Manager, or NTSC?

Hi Kenneth

The burner module will use the project properties settings for its settings, so you have to go back to the edit timelines to check that.
Close the burner module
Check the project properties from Settings.
Check the properties of your video used in the timeline, are they NTSC.

If you are using NTSC video and not Pal that will be the reason for these settings.

Settings- Project properties , properties = DVD PAL
Right click timeline, properties show file format-PAL DVD and 25 fps.
Settings-Preferences-Edit tab-PAL.
Setttings -Performance tab-video proxy options- 29.97 fps, (DVD NTSC) shows
Share tab-MPEG 2-Profile= 50i.Properties 50fps and PAL show.
File new project- share-mpeg2, click disc, click DVD.
In project settings cog PAL and 25fps show-do not convert compliant files is ticked

Could DVD video being 4.3 the problem ? If your video is using 4:3 then you should be burning a 4:3 disc, however o would have expected yoy to be working with 16:9, but that depends on your camera.[/b]

There is no problem with the above or any indication that NTSC is being used instead of Pal.

When you burn a disc, providing you create a compliant video file then the settings in the burner module can be ignored.
The only check you have to make is that"do not convert compliant files" is selected
Other than your navigation controls.
Everything else can be ignored.
When you burn the disc the video will not be converted, so no need to set any properties.

Every time open the disc template manager it shows ntsc and 4.3 I have tried editing this and entering PAL and 16.9 in new templates but when I return to the manager it has returned to NTSC.Whether or not this is an issue in this problem of mine
as far as I can see, this is the only item that is not showing PAL in all settings.The bottom line is that I have not progressed and am not able to burn discs because the same message shows up making my version of VSX9 not viable

Hi Kenneth

First you do not need to use the Disc Template Manager, that would be used to set a new template, and as far as I can tell you do not need to do that.

However if NTSC shows when accessing Disc Template manager then your project properties set on the main editor is probably set to NTSC.
Yet you say they are Pal – Quote “Settings - Project properties , properties = DVD PAL”

Ok there is certainly something different here, either the program is confused or we are confused.

Lets go back to the start…..
Please view Settings – Project Properties what are they?
Are you converting the project to a new video file (PalDVD) ?
Then using the new video to burn a disc.

Can you tell us the properties of that video file.

If you are rendering your project to a compliant video file then we can ignore all settings.
Using the compliant video will burn to disc without any further conversion, no settings required.

Settings -Project Properties as follows
MPEG files 24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First (DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: 8000 kbps Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR)
I used the existing video file so will render a new one (.Clicked ok to replace existing profile of it)File rendered successfully.
Format- DVD . Existing Project profiles -I highlighted DVD(720x576) 16.9 50i 8mbps (Do I need to do this or can I use previous setting ? )
Properties of newly rendered movie clip .99 GB frame w 720 frame h 576 25 fps data rate 8000kbps
Project settings check in burner module show PAL, 25 fps and dolby digital audio , 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR)
Disc template manager shows PAL/Secam and DVD video 4.3
Houston we have lift off!! Don’t know what I have done different but with your help and patience Trevor, I have been able to burn the DVD. What do think the problem was- was it a faulty render? Thank you so much for your guidance
