X9.5 trial version multi-cam question

Post by cerebros »

Hi everyone

I'm currently trying to figure out what video editor I want to use and have been downloading trial versions.

One of the main features I'm looking for is multi-cam support so I've been trying to check this out in the trial download version but of the three videos I'm trying to add into the multi-cam editor only two seem to come through.

What I've been doing is selecting all three videos in the Media pane in the main editor and right-clicking and then picking "Multi-Camera Editor". When the Source Manager opens all three clips are there on the left hand side in a grid layout and also on the right hand side of the Source Manager as video sources 1, 2 and 3. When I click OK and the Multi-Camera Editor opens, only two of the videos, the first and second from the right hand side of the Source Manager, come through.

I seem to be able to pull any two out of the three source videos through to the Multi-Camera editor but not all three at once, so is this just a limitation of the trial version or is there some other problem here?

thanks

That is a limitation of the trial version, Video Studio Pro X9 supports 4 tracks and the Ultimate version supports 6 tracks

I did not realise that, even so the trial should support 4 videos, so adding 3 should work

Strange that it adds to the Source Manager (right hand panel) yet drops the second in the main MCE panel.
What type of video are you adding, is the second video clip a different type? Maybe MP4 and WMV.??

Hi Trevor,
You could be right, I made that assumption based on the fact that when I installed the trial version on my wife's laptop, only two tracks could be utilized, but no problem with all 6 tracks of the full version

Hi Robert

You are correct, the trial only allows 2 video tracks, although the Source Manager allows you to insert 6 videos, the actual MCE panel uses two.

Corel state that the trial version has its limitations, but I found the MCE very buggy with regular crashes, especially when accessing the source manager. I can only say that the full version seemed to work without problems.

It’s a pity Corel do not provide a useful trial version, I’m sure it must impact on their sales.

Re: X9.5 trial version Sony .mts audio problem

Post by cerebros »

Hi folks,

One step forward, one step back.

So, the video files I'm trying for my main test project are:

1) .mts 1920x1080 50fps, 48kHz 256kps stereo from a Sony HX60
2) .mp4 1920x1080 30fps, 48kHz 256kps stereo from a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4
3) .mp4 1920x1080 60fps, 32kHz 95kbps mono from a cheapo action cam

For some reason VideoStudio can't seem to give me any audio waveform from the Sony footage in either the main editor or the multi-camera editor, just a flat line. If I play the clip in VideoStudio the audio does come through but no waveform.

This is a bit problematic as in the multi-camera module it can't sync the video up automatically and being unable to see both audio tracks is going to make it a bit of a faff to sync manually.

I've another couple of files from a simultaneous shoot which are
1) .mts 1920x1080 50fps, 48kHz 256kps stereo from a Sony HX60
2) .mov 1920x1080 23fps, 28kHz 1535kbps stereo from a Canon EOS 5d Mk II

Again, if I import these into a project, there's no audio waveform for the Sony displayed, just a flat line

Any ideas? Is this an issue with Sony .mts files? Thanks

Another problem with the Trial, too many features are disabled making reasonable evaluation almost impossible and the waveform could be one of those features, probably Dolby Digital is disabled because of licence fees, hence no waveform

Hi

Is it just the sony video that does not display the wave form?

It could of course be the trial that is not displaying the wave form,
Unfortunately I have now uninstalled the trial version so cannot check this.

You seem to be trying to use video having different frame rates, this may/ will impact on final quality as the output video can only use one rate.
Using MCE may not sync as not all frames will be showing
Video Studio and MCE uses a timeline having a frame rate say to match your 30 fps video, adding the 50fps is gonna cause the timeline to add duplicate frames to increase the videos frame rate from 30 to 50.

I have not tested MCE using video having different frame rates but I can only assume the program may struggle.

The frame rate used by MCE is normally the frame rate of Camera 1, again the trial limits the main edit timeline to use standard definition.
Please check the frame rate, the MCE timeline to see if it is using the Camera 1 fps of 50fps.

As I say mixing frame rates complicates things.

Sync audio
If there were any camera flashes, you can manually sync to those using the Marker tab.

Yeah, just the Sony video

Not so much "trying" as opposed to "having no choice but to". When I start recording for my projects properly I should be shooting the same frame rate on all cameras but the test videos I'm trying with the trial version were just shot using whichever device with acamera was to hand.

Hi

Ok I see now,

As a thought…..
You could try using the main program to create a sound clip of the Sony video, ramp up the volume.
Then add the sound clip to MCE, that may sync with the other video type.
Sony video and sony sound clips are in sync, just need lining up.

If you can provide two samples I will try then on the full version, you would have to upload to a sharing site.
Google Drive, One Drive, DropBox etc.
