In preferences, general and edit tabs, PAL is selected. Project properties show 50i.On going to the share tab and selecting MPEG-2-under Profile (720x576, 16.9 50i 8Mbps )shows.
I see also that (DVD-NTSC ) 16.9 shows. Can I assume that even though NTSC shows and I want PAL that PAL automatically be used or have I missed something somewhere?

Yes that is a discrepancy in the templates description but does not affect the actual template.
You should be able to change that, at least I was able to set Pal_DVD.
How, simply click the “+” to create a new template, should default to pal.
You do not need that new template so remove it by hitting the “-“
Now view the remaining pre-set templates, I see Pal used for all descriptions.

3 CVS tab shows, under profile name … MPEG-2 (720 x 576, 4:3, 50i, 8Mbps) – 1 which did not need changing
4 In general tab under display aspect ratio I had to change 4.3 to 16.9
5 In compression tab, I changed quality to 100 and audio type to
3/2(L.C.R. SL SR)
6 Clicked ok to comply with my project and preference settings
7 When I clicked - to delete custom profile , properties showed PAL but A/R changed to 4.3
8 So I had to go back to the general tab to change it to 16.9 and then not - click
- again to maintain a 16.9 A/R
