I am sure you are tired of new guys but I have spent all day trying to recover my first project work. I have digitized a bunch of super 8 film from my tour in Vietnam and was attempting to edit in X9 and got one sample DVD burnt. Obviously I must not have saved correctly as today I went back in and all I have of the project is a folder with the dubbed sound in an MP4 format. It will play the edited video but I can not burn another DVD from that. Can somebody give me an idea of where to find help or offer suggestions. I have searched my computer for saved DVD and projects with no results. Prior to burning the DVD it always opened as existing project but now all I can find is the MP4 and I really hate to think I have to begin at square one again.
Thanks in advance.
Wes

Re: Lost project
Assuming that you saved your project whilst creating, go to C;/Users/your name/my Documents/Corel VideoStudio Pro/My projects, here you will find all your saved .vsp files, hopefully your project will still be there

Re: Lost project
Yes it is there as an MP4 which I don't understand and can't seem to get X9 to allow me to edit or even burn to DVD as it says not linked or unreadable.

Re: Lost project
If it is not linked have you tried using the 'Relink' option ?
If you have the edited video in Mp4 format - why can't you burn another DVD from it ??
is your project listed at the bottom of the "File" list as a recent project - can you open it from there ?
have you search your whole computer for *.vsp - if you didn't check when you saved the project it could be any where on your computer

Re: Lost project
In addition to what Brian has indicated, you have copied the original source files to your computer and not just imported into VS straight from disc or other medium. If not copied to your computer, as soon as the source medium is removed, all data will be lost

Re: Lost project
Brian - The re-link says its not readable information which is odd as I did it in VS and when I try to burn a DVD it says there is no valid content. I can find the vsp file but it says it is MP4 which I probably did not realizing I couldn't burn additional DVDs from that.
Robert - I can go back to the ext hard drive and obtain the original source but then I have to start all the editing process from the beginning. I must not have saved something correctly

Re: Lost project
I suspect you are misunderstanding what a .vsp project file is. It is only a small text file which contains no video at all -- so I don't know what you have there when you say your vsp claims to be -- or at least contain -- mpeg-4 video. A vsp file merely tells Video Studio what video is in the project, where it is stored, what editing has been done (FX, transitions), and what audio has been added and where that is stored.
In your case, your original video you say is on an external hard drive. If that is the case, then trying to open a valid .vsp file would seek to connect to that external drive to open the video clips back in the VS timeline. If the external hard drive is not connected, then you would normally get a message saying the clips cannot be found and suggesting that you should Re-link them. To do so you would need to reconnect the external drive and navigate to where the clips are stored and select the first one VS is saying needs re-linking. When that happens, the others are normally re-linked automatically.
