I would like to import a XMP file created after editing a cr2 in another application when opening the file in ASP 3.
the file is saved with the same name of the cr2, only difference is the extension wich is now XMP.
When I open the file, with both on the same folder, ASP ignores the files, edits, and all.
How to import the information when opening the file?
Thanks
Using xmp files

Re: Using xmp files
What program wrote the XMP file? Sometimes this is proprietary, and can only be correctly interpreted by the program that created it. I know Adobe's is proprietary. It's important if the program writing the XMP file is using Adobe's Standard to do so, or at least so that other programs can read it and interpret correctly.
For example a new program released by On1, is their On1 Raw. Prior to that they had versions like On1 Photo Suite 10 and earlier. On1 will create XMP files, however those files are only used and read by On1, with the exception of their star ratings. LR would read those ratings, everything else is ignored. I just went through an exercise where I have several XMP files. I used a few different programs to open the RAW (CR2, I shoot Canon also) files that the XMP are associated with. The programs used, ASP-2, PSPX8, LR, PS, On1 Raw. Some of them would see certain EXIF contained in the XMP. However none would see and use the Develop changes made. The develop changes are very proprietary, generally only the authoring program will be able to use it. Some RAW files, like DNG or TIFF may have the meta data or develop settings written into the file itself, so XMP are not necessary for them.
You want to see what an XMP file is? Select one, right-click choose Open With, and choose Word Pad or some text editor. BEFORE you actually open it, make sure that you un-check the box beside Always Use this App. I've attached an XMP file created by ASP-2. This could not be read by any of the programs I listed. It is proprietary to ASP. Even PSP would not see the develop settings listed in the XMP file.

Re: Using xmp files
OK, so xmp files aren't standard. Far less useful than I thought.
Well, thanks for the reply.
