I've spent most of my post-Xmas freetime trying to work out why I can't add MPG video files to my timeline. All other video types appear to work fine but any effort to add an MPG causes issues.
The MPG video can be inserted and appears on the timeline but there is no video (probably no audio either but never checked). If I try to edit the imported MPG, the program crashes with an unexpected error type pop-up.
Seems to be a number of people around other sites with the same issue so I have tried various things like downloading DivX and making it default for MPGs but that made no difference. I even changed the suffix from .MPG to .MP4 and even .MOV but that just threw up file format errors.
Most of these MPGs were created in older versions of VideoStudio but I really don't want to go back to those.
Any ideas ?

Re: Unable to add MPG videos to timeline
Hi
Are you able to import the videos to the library.
Create a new library page
Right click the library and choose Insert Video, browse for your files.
Now tell us the properties of those video clips.
Right click a clip and choose properties, what are they?
take a snapshot of that window to create a jpeg image to attach to your post (Atl+PrtSc will copy to clipboard.)

Re: Unable to add MPG videos to timeline
I can import the MPG(s) but they won't play and there is just a blank container with no obvious video/audio.

Re: Unable to add MPG videos to timeline
Hi Paul
Sorry for delay in our reply
Certainly I don’t see anything wrong with those properties and don’t see any reason why they will not play.
I have some older Mpegs that play ok although with Digital Dolby Audio, LPCM should be ok.
I don’t really know what to suggest other than re-installing the program.
I assume you are using the latest patched version, go to Help – Check for updates.
Latest version is 19.5.0.35, view Help – About.
1 / You can try renaming the file to use MPEG or MTS as the files extension rather than MPG, but really clutching at straws here.
2 / Go to Settings Project Properties and set to DVD (720 x 576, 16:9, 50i, 8Mbps) which should match the clips properties, Edit the template to use LPCM Audio from the Compression tab., does that help?
If you have a smaller video clip, can you upload to a sharing site, OneDrive, GoogleDrive, DropBox.
We can try your video on our pc’s.

You might use https://handbrake.fr/ open source transcoder/converter to see if the files will convert to something that will edit
