Something is up with PSP X9

Post by Jan Shim »

In the last week or so I have encountered this twice while editing and I cannot figure out what it is except maybe a memory lock out. I'm working on an image, applying Nik's filters using ColorEfexPro and Viveza (no layers). Then I try to use the Clone Tool and nothing works. The Clone Tool locks an area but copies nothing. The only way to fix this is to save and close the image and open it again by which time the Clone Tool is working again. Weird. Has anyone encountered this or something similar and know of a fix without actually needing to close the image?

What I've noticed in the last few days with the clone tool is that there is a big delay when moving the mouse. The circle for the paining moves but there is no change to the area covered, then when the mouse movement stops there is a jump in what is covered. Hard to explain but very annoying. Other tools also have a delay in the motion.

This has happened to me more times than I cared to remember, and it's not just X9 but also previous versions. What fixes for me is the Reset Preferences | Delete all cache files option. If this doesn't do it for you then the full program reset procedure may be in order. Good luck!

Ditto, I thought it was the age of my computer slowing it down, so left it at that.
When I hit Ctrl+N - for New Image - it takes an age for the new image to open. After that it's ok.
When using the Smart Selection Brush I tick the Smart Edge box, the first time nothing happens, so have to tick it again.

I had a similar issue with x8. I found that a large tool size was the issue. Run a test. Try it with your regular tool size. Then make the tool/brush much smaller and try again. I fund that balancing the tool size was all I had to do.

Hope that helps.

Try toggling Smart Edge on then off.

A checkbox on the tool options palette (F4). The far right side in PSP X7.

Last week, I opened PSP x9, opened a file, and wanted to re-size it. I get a msg that reads: Corel Paintshop Pro x9 (64-bit) has stopped working. . It then asked if I wanted to have it checked out or to close it. I asked to have it checked online. It closes the box. Then I tried to close x9, but instead it gave me a huge re-size box (not the normal size). So I closed that box, then tried to close x9, but everytime I clicked on the x, my computer makes a ding sound with no closing. I can now click anywhere, and I get a ding sound. Then I did a control alt del. This closed x9. I re-tried to open x9, but nothing happens. I ended up deleting x9 from my computer, then re-installed it. It took 2 re-installs to get x9 back to working properly.

To-day, I opened an image. I asked to re-size. Guess what????????????????? Again.

I have looked to see others having a problem with PSP x9. There is no need to tell me it is MY computer. It has to do with x9. Yes, I am up to date. I have used psp for many many years with never a problem such as this.

I used windows7 pro.

If this cannot be fixed, I want my money returned. This has been such a wasted program of my time.

Thank you.

Not had the same problems, not even during Beta testing.

One thing you could try is resetting X9.

Open the program, save your custom workspace if you have one.
Close X9.
Open it again, but hold the Shift key at the same time as you open it, keep holding it until you get a message that tells you PSP will revert to it's default settings.
Click OK.

Check if the same problem still occurs.
I find this a good cure-all. It doesn't always work, but has fixed a lot of problems in the past.

I tried what you requested. But, ....

For some reason, I am back to where I was ... a hanging psp x9. I must contr-alt-delete in order to get out. But I cannot re-open the program, but must re-start the computer.

Totally disappointing.

I have tried to duplicate the problems with the clone tool but without any luck. PSP X9 32 bit version (19.0.2.4) seems to be running very smoothly . The problem is that I am working in the dark as those that have complained of problems have not given enough information. Working with an image 5760 x 3840 pixels, clone brush size 700 pixels on a laptop

With the delays in tool movement and problems with clone tool. How many layers, what size image, what version of PSP X9, what size brush, any messages in lower left to show what PSP is doing.

(I know in some versions of PSP with large images I have had some delays as "Writing Undo Data to Disk" occurs.)

Is the delay related to this? In my X9 with the clone tool as above I am seeing a the message briefly , so quickly in most cases that I have trouble reading it. Much faster than in some earlier versions.

"opened a file and wanted to re-size it"
Again what version of PSP X9 , what size image, what method of resizing - Percentage ? print size pixels, inches, cm .
