PSP X9 locks up

Post by tlveik »

Just installed PSP X9 and having trouble with it locking up. All I'm doing is loading the file and scrolling around looking at it. Not even trying to edit it. It works for a couple minutes then locks up. I have to force it to shut down with Windows task manager.

Windows 10 Home, 64 bit, OS 14393.576
Dell XPS8900, 16 gig ram
PSP X9 19.1.0.29 X64
Map.pspinage, 5245 x 3424 pixels, 43.7 meg

The image was created in an older version of PSP. Perhaps X2 or even older. I did try re-saving it but it still locks up when I load it.

It just locked up again and I don't even have a picture loaded now.

Any ideas what's going on?

Try a reset to default.
Hold the Shift key down and restart the program from the desktop icon.
It will ask if you want to reset the program to the default. Accept by clicking yes.

Did you install both the 32 bit and 64 bit version of PSP X9?
When you load a file is that in Manage mode or are you able to switch to Edit mode.

Did you install the programs in their default locations of try and install on a different hard drive?

Installed 64 bit only.
I was loading the file by double clicking the file in Windows Explorer.
I can get into edit mode and spend a minute looking at the image, then lockup (PSP only).
Program is installed in the default location. C:\Program Files\Corel\
I did the shift key restart to defaults. Still locks up.
I don't even need to load the big file. Even if I don't load any image it locks up after 2 minutes or so. (PSP only)

How do I get my money back? This program is useless. It keeps freezing.

Not the answer you want to hear but my guess is that PSP is not the problem. Rather there is a conflict somewhere with your setup. If it was a PSP issue then my guess is that these forums would be full of folks complaining about the same issue.

Have a look at what else is running on your computer. If possible shut everything down. Then open PSP and see if the lockup still occurs. When you open Windows Task manager look to see if anything else is hogging the system.

Good luck.

HEllo I have exactely the sam problem. I installed an evaluation copu of X9 and keeps freezing. I see in Performance Monitor
Versio is 19.1.0.29 x64. This is the second time I install Version 9 and had the same result the first time.

I am running x4 and works greatly (so I am asking myself why I veed x9)

I have W10 Pentium 7 920 and 24GB of storage and I am using two monitors.

One of the thing I notice is that it takes ages to display preview of pictures in "manage" screen.

I also see X9 Threads going in waiting status from Widows Performance Monitor.

Everything else in my PC works great

Here is the contact info for Corel. They may be able to help you with the freezing problem and if not, ask about a refund.

This may be grasping at straws . . . Go into C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\19.0\Database and rename (so you can go back to them) or erase the two files there. They will be recreated when PSP opens. I think they can get corrupted.

I appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

brucet, I have tried shutting all other running programs down so PSP is the only program left running. CPU usage is near zero. PSP still locks up.

MarkZ, I deleted the two files you mentioned and they were recreated as you said they would be. PSP still locks up.

Kathy_9, I submitted a support ticket. We'll see what they say.

Thanks.

Lastly have you done a removal and clean up, updated Windows and then reinstalled X9 from a new download version (or check that the version you have works when installed on another computer).

When you say 'locks up'. If you leave it for a while will it start up again. Or is it 'terminal'?

The reason I ask is that the new version of Firefox does the same to me. Computer locks up for a while. 20-30 seconds. But if I let it do its own thing for a while it comes good and works as it should. I just wonder if PSP is doing some house keeping in the background. Each time you close PSP it hasn't finished its work and starts over again at each start up.

It's a head scratcher!

It's terminal. I just let it crash again. 10 minutes later, it's still frozen.

I just downloaded the program again. Thankfully the link I got with the purchase hasn't expired yet. I did a binary compare with the original download. Identical.

I'm going to hold off on the removal/cleanup/reinstall for now in case there are some hidden crash logs somewhere that Corel support might want to look at.

So far Corel support has had even less luck that I had getting this to work. I haven't heard from them in a couple days. I wonder if they gave up on me.

Corel support has gone silent. Last response was 15 days ago. So I submitted a second ticket saying that if they won't help me that I want my money back. They just closed the ticket saying that I already had an open ticket.
