Corel Videostudio Pro X9 Freezing and Crashing
I recently received Corel Videostudio Pro X9 for Christmas. I started using it yesterday to try and make videos for my youtube channel. I record using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) and then put the clips into Corel to edit them and render them. When using the program, if I have an 18-minute long video, if I try to jump from the start of the clip to the 17 minute mark, the program freezes and it takes about twenty minutes for it to finally register the action, or it crashes altogether. My computer's fan also starts going crazy like my computer is working overtime to try and make the program work. I'm using Windows 10, but I noticed in the properties for the program, the compatibility only goes up to Windows 8. Would that be a source of the problem? I have also tried to run the program as administrator and it didn't fix the problem. What should I do?

Hi Violarules
And welcome to the forums
First I would think your program is upto date but please go to Help – Check for Updates.
I suspect it may be your video format or codec that the program is struggling with.
Can you give us some details of your video file, right click a clip and choose properties, what are they?
You can make an image of that window to attach to your post, or simply type the details.
Then go to Settings Project Properties, the right hand panel shows details that should be similar to your video files properties.
The above should be auto set by the program provided it can read the video codec correctly.

Re: Corel Videostudio Pro X9 Freezing and Crashing
Thanks for the welcome
The program is up-to-date.
Here are the properties for the clip from my most recent video. I forgot to mention that whenever I drag and drop the thumbnail from an OBS recorded clip into the timeline, it asks if I want to change the format of it so Corel can render it properly.
File Format: MPEG-4 File
File Size: 491MB
30 Frames per second
Video type: H.264 High Profile Video
Attributes: 24 Bits, 1920x1080, 16:9
Audio Type: MPEG AAC Audio
Here's the Project Properties:
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 5000 Kbps, 16:9
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 256 Kbps
There are slight differences between the project Properties and the one from the clip, but I feel like they shouldn't make the program crash. Also, just to mention, when I went to take a screenshot of the properties of the clips I use, the program instantly crashed.

Re: Corel Videostudio Pro X9 Freezing and Crashing
Hi
Your properties look ok, and good that you see the message to match the properties.
I don’t really understand why VS should crash using that video?
Video Studio uses a process called Smart Proxy, can you make sure that is enabled, view Settings Smart Proxy
Then right click the video in library or timeline and choose Create Proxy Files. Takes a while to render, view Settings Smart Proxy Queue and File manager to see progress.
Once created project playback should improve.
But again this should not cause the crash, but see if Smart Proxy improves things.

Hi, I'm back. I still have the crashing problem. Now it crashes sometimes when trying to use the Smart Proxy setting.

I have the same problem in Win7 64.
Lots of lag and the CPU maxing out when you move the cursor and it gets stuck thinking.

Smart Proxy just made it worse.
That OBS file works fine with X7 in XP 32 and X7 in Vista 32, and the CPU's don't max out.

Looks like it's X9. Installed X7 on my system and it's perfect.

Don't make such general statements - I used VS X9.5 on the files you supplied and there is no problem.Old Grey wrote:Looks like it's X9. Installed X7 on my system and it's perfect.

Re: Corel Videostudio Pro X9 Freezing and Crashing
Yeah it still crashes. Once the smart proxy goes through, it's fine. But if I try to work with the files without the smart proxy, it freezes up, or crashes all together. When it freezes up, I can tell, because if I open Mozilla to wait for it to unfreeze, the line that appears on the timeline in the project that indicates which the frame being displayed is, can still be seen on Mozilla. Same with any prompts that come up when using the split tool or anything like that. If I shut off my computer for a while and let it cool down, since it gets hot when I record with OBS and use Corel, I don't run into as much of a problem with Corel.
