Trouble with filters showing in PSP X9

Post by destiny63 »

I have PSP X3 that I was using with Windows 7. I got a new comp for Christmas with Windows 10. When I first installed and opened PSP X3 on my new comp I got the registration screen, which I filled out and submitted. Since the the program will not open at all.. (I downloaded the 5 updates, installed them in order and did the reset of IE that I read here on the forum, without any succcess)
I downloaded a trial of X9 which does open, but I can't get the filters to show up in the program. I have been using PSP since version 7 of jasc and have never had a problem with the filters showing. I have installed the dll files (I used the 10 for Win 7. I don't want to purchase a newer version of PSP if I am unable to use it with filters. I have 64 bit version of Windows. I do CT work for Artists and Scrap kit makers, and at the moment I am at a standstill. I have 64 bit version of Windows 10. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Marie

Welcome to the forums!

Since PSP X7 (I think it was -- certainly with X8 and X9), PSP comes in both 64 bit and 32 bit versions. In fact, the default option is to download both forms since both will work on a 64 bit computer. X3 was 32 bit only, and the filters which worked with it are also 32 bit so will not work with a 64 bit program. Unfortunately, the trial version of PSP X9 is likely to be 64 bit so won't play your filters. But rest assured that if you buy the full version, you will be able to get the two forms, and your old 32 bit filters will work in the 32 bit PSP.

Depending on your computer resources, a 64 bit computer will be able to use more RAM than a 32 bit system, so you can always apply a filter to an image in the 32 bit version, save it, then open it again in the 64 bit version if you plan on doing some resource intensive work on it... I see your Core i5 has 12 GB RAM so if you use the 64 bit PSP, you will be able to use all of this RAM; whereas with the 32 bit PSP, you will be limited to using under 4 GB. (Nothing you can do about it: that's just the difference between 64 and 32 bit operating systems.)

Thank you I bought it and the 32 bit version works with most of my filters. There are some that are freezing up the program so I going to search the forum for answers. Thank you for your assistance.
