Capturing Video

Post by BuddyG »

I am a novice trying to learn. I have Movie Factory 3.5. Pentium 4 computer, 512mb ram with lots of free space (50GB) on my hard drive. Windows XP Pro. Pioneer 109 DVDR/RW.
I used a commercial company to put 28 minutes of 8mm home movie film on a DVD+R. I was also provided a VHS Cassette. I want to edit my movie.
Is it possible to capture this video from my DVD drive to my hard drive and then use the Ulead software to edit it and burn a new DVD?
Or, is my only option to play the VHS cassette and capture the analog data that way? That I can do as I have done it with VHS-C home movies taken with my 'old' video camera.
The technician that transferred my 8mm film to a DVD put it on a DVD+R. Right now all I have are DVD-RW disks. I tried to copy the DVD+R disk onto a DVD-RW disk without satisfactory results. Must I use the same format disks to effect a satisfactory copy?

Copying the dvd's shouldn't affect the quality of the video.
But, you can't copy a dvd+r to a dvd-rw "On the fly".

You can import the dvd using MF3.5 using the import dvd/dvd-vr disk icon.
