Hi
I have been a long user of Videostudio and am currently using version Pro X8.
I have been putting together the photos and videos for our Cub Pack presentation night this week, but am getting an error when creating the video file for one section.
When I come to create the video, it gets to 93% then stops with an error that states "Error on reading file" with the numbers 18300:8000:208.
I do not know what this means - can anyone help?
Many thanks in advance
Simon

Re: Error when creating video file
It means there is a problem with one of the photos/clips in the timeline - could be a number of things preventing Videostudio from processing the clip
the only way to find it I'm afraid is to remove clips from the timeline around about the 95% mark and try another render -- trial and error - remove one and test render - if OK put it back - remove another - test render etc. - - don't forget anything in other timelines - like music (often causes problems)
once you find the culprit then you need to examine it to find the problem

Many thanks for the thoughts Brian - I'll have a look.
I've just rendered another clip (which goes through videostudio fine), but when I play it in windows media player, it skips really badly. It jumps past certain parts - but if you drag the timeline everything is there fine. When it skips, it then doesn't actually get to the end of the timeline properly.
Many thanks for the help.

Re: Error when creating video file
That seems like it could be more of an issue with how you're rendering, the FPS, frame rate. For example if you're rendering an NTSC compliant video file, which is 29.97 fps, at the PAL standard of 25fps, then you will loose 4.97 frames for every second of video. OR vice versa, VideoStudio must add those frames. However that is just a very wild stab in the dark not knowing the properties of the file(s) you're working with and also how (project properties) you're producing your finished product, which can be a whole other set of properties. Could you please enlighten us of those? One other thing, I have 3 different video players installed, and Windows Media player is my least liked. VLC Media Player will play just about anything thrown at it.secookie wrote:Many thanks for the thoughts Brian - I'll have a look.

Re: Error when creating video file
Many thanks for the help Ron.
I've downloaded VLC Media Player and the video plays fine without skipping (quite a relief!!).
Still trying to sort out the other issue of the other file not rendering. It seems to stop where there are two .mov files playing next to each other on screen Ithey were filmed portrait), with a video background too. It actually made videostudio stop responding when I just tried it!
I'm making MPEG files, the stats show:-
24 bits, 720 x 576, 24fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC) 16:9
Video data rate Variable (Max 8000 kbps)
Audio rate 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio 48 kHz, 2/0(L,R)
What I do each year is put the photos and videos we take for the kids, to music. Render each event to a video file and then using the DVD maker in Videostudio, create a dvd for the parents.
I used MPEG-2 as it seems to create smaller video sizes to input onto the DVD.
To be honest, although I've used VS for our 10 years, I'm still very novice to settings etc as I don't really understand the technical!
Many thanks for everyone's help.

Re: Error when creating video file
Hi Simon
It does seem that the Mov video is the cause.
If you do not need that footage I would simple remove from the timeline completing the movie without them
I assume the portrait video are from a phone, just a guess, those types use a variable frame rate and do cause problems.
Try adding those to a new project which will allow you to convert / render them to a new video file.
If that works add the new video to your main project.
You could try a video converter to create a more editable format from those Mov files.
By the way rendering to MPEG2 for the final output video is correct if you are burning a DVD.
