problem with patterns

Post by jimbir »

I've scanned a newspaper comic strip. Some of the print on the reverse side shows thru. I can reduce this slightly by covering the strip with a piece of black poster board.
I'm trying to eliminate the areas where the bleed thru by using a clean pattern from a different portion of the strip. The procedure I use follows:
1 Select an area containing the pattern I want to use.
2 On the materials pallet I select the foreground color.
3 In that window I select "pattern and see a thumbnail containing the selected pattern.
4 I click on OK.
5 I make a selection of the area I want to replace with the pattern.
6 I use the flood fill tool to fill the selection with the pattern.
The pattern was taken from the area just above the coffee cup. The scale for area 1 was 100 and for area 2 was 150. The angle for both was 0.
You'll note there is a grid pattern showing in both areas although, less in the one with the scale set t0 150. However, the definition of the pattern is reduced dramatically.
Questions. Is my procedure correct? What do I have to do to eliminate the grid? Should I be working with textures?
Thanks for all help. Jim

Without a screen capture showing the problem, I cannot understand nor help... :(
When scanning, place a black paper under the page to be scanned. This removes the reverse side showing thru.

Your picture didn't load.
Now, I see it...
What are the 2, 1 and 3 numbers supposed to explain in the image ?
Your paper was not flat and some shadows appear here and there. Difficult to correct...

I don't understand your process.

What I would do in this situation (poor scanning) is the followwing :
Essai pattern selection.png
and finish with some corrections with the Clone Tool:
essai pattern finish.png

See the following video showing the work in another similar situation where I needed to remove a book title (to put another in French):
