I've been using alpha channels quite a bit for my photography. As I often have many alpha channels, I found the preview under alpha channel selection too small to see the details. Attached are two scripts that I use to help. The scripts below will create a new layer with the visual representation of the alpha channel. This way I can see full screen of the image. I also found it helpful to use these layers to tweak the mask and create a new mask (new mask from image).
By default, the layers are hidden so you can toggle the display on/off.
"Alpha Channel to layer" allows me to select an single alpha channel and create a layer.
"Alpha Channels to group" will create a group with all alpha channels in the group. Warning - depending on the number of alpha channels, size of the image and your system, this could take a minute or so to create. You will get a pop up message when it completes.
