VSP file not working
I have video studio pro X8. I have been editing a particular project for about two weeks now and each time I save the project file. The VSP file exists. However I now find that when I try and use the VSP file video studio fires up but nothing appears. I had first thought the might be a problem in that most of the data is on an external hard drive and that plugging it in to a different port might have made a difference but this doesn't seem to be the problem.. I am incidentally able to use other VSP files and they work beautifully. I'd be grateful for any advice

Re: VSP file not working
It could be causing problems if you OS assigns a different drive letter to your EHD when you plug it in. Most of the time when that happens VS just requests relinking to those files. Have you tried opening the VSP after launching VS? Go to the File menu and select Open Project.
When you say nothing appears, does VS just hang and you have to stop/close VS? Does it just stop trying to open the VSP, and opens with nothing? If so try what I suggested.

Re: VSP file not working
Many thanks for your swift response. I have tried going into video studio and opening the project which is still shown on the drop-down menu. In this case nothing happens at all. If I go to the source file for the VSP and click on it opens up video studio but there is nothing there.
Incidentally I'm most impressed by the support that you and your colleagues give to us inexperienced aspiring video editors!

Hi
When you say there is nothing there, please view the name of the project file top right of screen.
Does that change when trying to open the project.
Have you installed the Trial X9 version, and if so was this project created using X9?

Re: VSP file not working
Do a full system search for *.vsp files
** It's always good to save vsp's with different names as projects work progress.

Re: VSP file not working
Thanks for your replies
First of all the size of the vsp file is 577kb
I have the full version of corel video studio pro x 8
When I click on the vsp file on drive C it immediately opens pro x 8 but with nothing in the time line. The name of the vsp is however in the top right corner
My system is as follows:
c: solid state drive
I: 1TB hard drive
J: 2TB hard drive
In addition I have 2 external hard drives one of which has the material for this project. They are connected to usb ports.
Now if the computer allocates a different drive letter to the external drive then the vsp file would not work but I am not sure how to check
I did a full search for vsp files I see that there are a lot of vsp files on drive K: K:\FileHistory\Robert\NEWCOMPUTER\Data\C\Users\Robert\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\My Projects. If I try to open any of them pro x 8 comes up with an error message saying vsp file in use
All very odd

Re: VSP file not working
This is a practice which we try to discourage. In the best of all possible worlds, it should work, but as you have found it doesn't always do so. As Ron P suggested at the outset, you should first open Video Studio and go to File > Open and navigate to where your vsp is stored and open it that way -- or look down the bottom of the File drop-down menu and see if it is listed, and if it is open it from there.jrbmaclachlan wrote:When I click on the vsp file on drive C it immediately opens pro x 8 but with nothing in the time line.

Re: VSP file not working
Hi
We always recommend opening the vsp project from within Video Studio.
Please run video studio then File Open Project to locate your VSP file.
Also as a quick launch the 4 most recent used projects can be opened from File, bottom of the list shows 4 projects.
If the project does not open can you zip the file to attach to your post, maybe we can open the project, although we cannot view the content as we do not have your files, but can give it a go.
Reading the posts and your replies I don’t think we will be able to fix this, you may have to start afresh.
If it were a problem with the drive or clip locations then you should get a re-link request, a bit unusual that there are no errors.
If the vsp had been made with X9 then that would / could cause this opening issue.

Re: VSP file not working
Hi Robert
On occasions we do find some project files that just will not open, corrupt in some way or another.
But if you zip the vsp and attach to this post we can try.
Given that you appear to have tried everything I doubt we would make much progress, but willing to give it a go.
