PSPX9 crashes when using text presets

Post by Mark Swanson »

I very recently have upgraded to PSPX9. I did it because of the text presets, and the newer features...I have it on two different computers. When I pull down the text preset menu, the program locks right up. This is happening on BOTH of my machines, every time. What's up? Is this related to the "Script" issues I see here? I also have a fair number of scripts and I do hope I will still be able to use these....I just got X9 and I haven't even tried to use it until now. thanks !

Text presets, on my PC, don't crash X9.
Could you make a PSP reset on one of your machine (launch X9 with shiftkey down until it asks to confirm the reset)?
See if it hangs again.

This morning I clicked on Pen Tool and the entire Tools Options palette went blank. This is when the program should have locked up but it didn't. When I clicked on another tool, the empty palette is once again populated. Clicked on Pen Tool one more time and the palette went blank. Weird. Not related to your issue but just pointing my share of anomalies with X9. The immediate thing to do is to perform a Reset Preference: checking all boxes but not before you make sure you have saved you Workspace to go back to. Maybe you can leave these two unchecked: "Reset general preferences" and "Reset file locations". Good luck!

After reading your post I tried that and yes, it crashed.

Ctrl-Alt-Del for Taskmaster and closed the program.
Reloaded, tried again and it was fine.

Have no idea why. they're scripts, so 'should' work..

I have to admit I didn't know about Text Preset (don't know if they existed before or is a feature of X9). I offered Mark a fix that has worked for me on a number of occasions in previous releases of PSP up to X8. After Joelle's comment, I decided to give it a try and glad to see it not crashing. The selection of available text effects is rather cool. Having done some heavy processing work with X9 for several weeks now I must say this is by far the most stable version I've used in a long time.

Tried again this morning, it crashed.
Same routine as before.
Oh dear.. not again ..
I'll just use the 'normal' way of filling the text, that works fine :-)

Merry Christmas and a Gelukkig Nieuw Jaar :-)

Corel Customer Support just sent a blanket fix suggestion that did nothing.

Finally, fixed this myself

"C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9\IPP\EN\Presets\All Presets\Preset_TextEx_Army.PspScript"

I deleted that file and suddenly it works. No more crashes.

Hope that helps.

Did that, it still crashes.
But as I never use the presets, it's not a problem.
Thanks for the instructions :-)

One more thought... try deleting all the presets in that folder. Their example presets are horrible anyway. At least then you can save your own presets.

He he, you are so right about the not-very-good presets :-)

But then if a user doesn't know how to do them at all, it's better than nothing.
To my way of thinking it's easier to do one's own ;-)

Ah, so you have no problem handing your money to Corel for something that does not work? They just love people like you. You need to demand they fix it, or simply ask for your money back.

It isn't a problem.
There are worse things in life.
It could easily be my computer which is very ancient :-)
